1 STOCKHOLM ROYAL SEAPORT
I am going to tell you about Stockholm Royal Seaport, which is one of Europé’s largest urban development areas, with more than 12,000 new homes and 35,000 workplaces. It has an enivormental profile. Planning work started in the early 2000s and the new city district will be fully developed around 2030 The area runs along the waterline of the Baltic Sea, lies next door to the Royal National City Park and is just ten minutes away from central Stockholm by bicycle. The industrial site around the gasworks area will be transformed into an urban district that interacts with port operations and the existing residential areas. I will hopefully show you a film which is in English but subtitled in Russian

2 Completed by: 2030 The City of Stockholm’s vision. Size: 236 hectares
Construction start: 2011 Completed by: 2030 The City of Stockholm’s vision. Size: 236 hectares New homes: more than for approximately 27,600 new residents. New workplaces: for many new companies, organizations and service. Total investment: € 2,2 billion (Land owned by the City of Stockholm) Target energy use: 55 kWh per square meter per year Target emission rates: Carbon dioxide emissions below 1.5 ton per person by 2020, adapted to climate change, and fossil fuel free by 2030 Public transports: Metro, biogas and electro hybrid buses, and commuter boat. Municipal art: 1% of the investments is committed to art. More than 600 companies are established in the area, among them Nasdaq Stockholm stock exchange and Magasin III one of the leading institutions of contemporary art in Europe. More than 1,300 new housing units are now occupied and added to the existing residential area of 1,600 households. Approximately 2,500 additional housing units have been appointed to developers, but more than half of the development is still to be planned and appointed. The district will be adapted to future climate changes as well as safeguarding biodiversity and ecological values. A resource efficient area with low environmental impact. According to a decision by Stockholm City Council in 2010, Stockholm Royal Seaport is to be a sustainable urban district and an international model for sustainable urban planning. Property developers participate in competence development seminars at an early stage, to offer their views and experience in an effort to achieve the sustainability targets.During the years that the Royal Seaport is being designed and developed, the sustainability requirements will gradually be updated. The requirements will be adapted as new knowledge, experience and research findings are presented and realised Stockholm is growing rapidly and 140,000 new homes are planned by 2030. Metro station –existing one. New bridges. Tram New road The main climate goals of the project are to develop a city district that is: fossil fuel free by 2030 and climate positive (according to CCI standards) by This will result in a reduction of 36,000 tons of CO2 per annum compared to business-as-usual. But probably this will not be achieved

3 A SUSTAINABLE URBAN DISTRICT
Political will Requirements and monitoring Collaboration and training Stockholm Royal Seaport Innovation Research and development Political will One of the prerequisites for the development of Stockholm Royal Seaport is broad political support, and the aspiration that Stockholm should continue to be a leader in sustainable urban development. One of the City's strategies is to work with areas with an environmental profile to test what is currently feasible and to push the boundaries of what is possible. In 2008, the Stockholm City Council decided that Stockholm Royal Seaport would be designat- ed an area with an environmental profile. – Copied into other areas in Stockholm and that the whole city . You can say that it is a pilot project. But this is not the first urban district in Stockholm that has had an enivornmental profile. The first was was Hammarby Sjöstad and a lot which learnt from there has been implemented and improved in Stockholm Royal seaport Requirements and monitoring Sustainability requirements are fundamental to planning. Since the requirements affect the design of buildings and the urban district, they must be clear and verifiable. Monitoring compliance with the requirements ensures that the high ambitions are put into practice. While this is highly significant for progress in the right direction, it also enables the City's stakeholders and property developers to use this experience in other projects. This I will go into more detailed – like the process. Collaboration and training To ensure that the sustainability ambitions are put into practice, the City's administrations and companies contribute expertise via a number of focus groups. Various forms of collaboration have also been established – forums and training initiatives that enable dialogue and exchanges with, and between, the City, property developers, consultants and suppliers. These occasions represent meaningful communication interfaces between the City and property developers, and also p- rovide a joint learning platform. Research and development To ensure that the urban development project remains at the cutting edge, new knowledge and solutions are required. Various applied research projects are there- fore initiated, based on needs identified on the basis of the ambitious sustainability targets. About 20 research and development projects linked to Stockholm Royal Seaport are currently ongoing. For instant one project that was going on in my project area, Gaswork’s area, the old industry buildings with high cultural values. The reseach was about adding solar panals on these buildings and valuating the negative effect of the buildings and the cultural values.
