The Swedish royals have been busy preparing for Christmas over the past week.

But this evening the royals went from festive to formal as they attended the annual Swedish Academy meeting at the Stock Exchange in Stockolm.

Crown Princess Victoria, 41, looked typically elegant in a full length blue velvet dress this evening.

She wore her brunette locks, as she typically does, in a low chignon and carried a box clutch also in a blue velvet.

She was accompanied by her husband Prince Daniel, 45, who looked his dapper best in a full tux.

The event this evening is always held in the run-up to Christmas and the family gets together to attend the Formal Gathering.

The Swedish Academy was originally founded in 1786 by King Gustav III. Its purpose is to work upon purity, strength and sublimity of the Swedish language.

The Academy annually appoints the recipient of several awards and scholarships, including deciding who will be the laureate for the Nobel Prize in Literature.

The Swedish Academy concludes the working year by celebrating its formal assembly with a public gathering at the Stock Exchange on 20 December at 17:00.
