Project for the web is a new service that is now available to Office 365 users. You can make it available to your users through the following licenses:
Project Plan P3 (previously called Project Online Professional)
Project Plan P5 (previously called Project Online Premium)
If your users are currently using Project Online Professional or Project Online Premium licenses, Project for the web is available to them now.

The follow can be helpful to you if you’re an admin who wants to learn more about Project for the web. It can be especially helpful if your organization currently uses Project Online or the Project Online Desktop Client.
Users with Project Online Professional (renamed to Project Plan P3) or Project Online Premium (renamed to Project Plan P5) licenses will automatically get Project for the web. Project for the web data is stored in your Dynamics 365 Dataverse default instance. You can view Power BI reports by connecting to the data with Power BI Desktop, which is described in the following article:
Initial use of Project for the web or Roadmap in your tenant will automatically create the default Dataverse instance. Administrators have the option to deploy Project to more environments.

There is no date to limit the functionality of Project Online at this time, but we encourage customers to plan their transition as soon as possible. We know that many of you depend on Project Online.
Project for the web (or simply Project) is built on the Microsoft Power Platform and includes the following: Project Home. Roadmap. A new project management experience that is easy-to-use, web-based, and especially created for informal project managers.
The easiest way to create a new project in Project Web App is to click Create or import projects, under Get Started with Project Web App on the main Project Web App home page. Next, choose which type of project you want to create.
Overall, Project for the Web has a more modern, flexible architecture, with a focus on agility and adaptability. Project Online, on the other hand, has a more traditional architecture, with a focus on hierarchical project management and integration with SharePoint Online.

A progressive web app (PWA) is an app that's built using web platform technologies, but that provides a user experience like that of a platform-specific app.
The text underneath the name of the project will read "Project Web App" The URL underneath the name of the project will be the name of your company, followed by ".sharepoint.com". This is Microsoft's public cloud where Project Online is hosted.
