Why am I receiving a Google verification code?
If you use 2-Step Verification, you've elected to get a verification code by text when you sign in. This code adds an extra layer of security to your account. Learn more about 2-Step Verification. If you're creating a Google Account, we might ask you to enter a verification code that we send to your phone.
An unrequested verification code is a giant neon sign saying, “Someone is trying to sign in to your account!” That means your username and password could be compromised. Thus, it's time to log into your account and change your password. Make sure you're coming up with something strong and unique.
When you receive a code it typically means you or someone is trying to log in with your credentials.
As well, the code can be used to gain access to, and hijack, Gmail accounts. The scammers often use the Google Voice number in fraudulent ads on marketplace websites or for other criminal activity, hiding their true identity and leaving the victim looking like the guilty party.
- Go to your Google Account.
- On the left navigation panel, select Security .
- On the Your devices panel, select Manage all devices.
- You'll see devices where you're currently signed in to your Google Account or have been in the last few weeks.

Google sends out six-digit codes to verify identities, and if a hacker gets ahold of it, they can take control of your account. Who is synced to my phone?
Go to settings / Accounts - from here you'll see a list of accounts that are active, if you click into Google it will show you all the data that is being synced up.
Sign in to appleid.apple.com,* then select Devices. If you don't see your devices right away, click View Details and answer your security questions. Click any device name to view that device's information, such as the device model, serial number, and OS version. The information might vary depending on the device type.
To make sure this doesn't happen to you, if you get a text like this from Google phone with the six-digit code, don't share it with anyone. Instead, recognize it's just scammers. When Google sent the verification code, it does state do not share the code with anyone, but for some reason, people ignore that warning.

Avoid account & password recovery services
For your security, you can't call Google for help to sign into your account. We don't work with any service that claims to provide account or password support. Do not give out your passwords or verification codes.

What is a text message from verify?
When you send a message with Verified SMS, both your agent and the user's device hash the message content with a shared secret (generated with each others' keys) and send the message hash to Verified SMS. Verified SMS confirms that the message hashes match and notifies the Messages app that the message is verified.
