In general, the usual recovery time for any PRP treatment is about 4 to 6 weeks. PRP injections that are used for musculoskeletal issues, particularly injuries to the joints, usually require 6 weeks or more. However, for cosmetic PRP treatments, most patients can plan toward 4 weeks at the outset.
After the initial weeks, you may slowly return to regular activity. Remember, pain is a sign from your body to slow down. Most of all, be patient. The PRP injection healing process is just like the healing process from an injury, it takes time.
Rest for the first 24-48 hours, but do not lie sedentary. We encourage light movement and range of motion after your injections. Use crutches or a walker for a lower extremity joint, and a sling if necessary for shoulders. You should gradually increase activities using discomfort as a guideline.
After your Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment you should: • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, hot drinks and spicy food for 24 hours, as these may exacerbate bruising and swelling.
PRP therapy takes time to work. It is not like a steroid shot that will make you feel better right away. You may feel more pain at first, since we are causing swelling in the area that was already sore. The swelling is needed for the blood cells to start helping you heal for the long term.
Depending on your condition, you should see results between 2-6 weeks after receiving a PRP injection. Mild injuries or chronic pain cases typically see results within the first two weeks, while more serious injuries won't be able to appreciate the healing until around a month has passed.
You'll need to complete a series of four to six treatments to achieve real PRP hair treatment results, and you'll be able to enjoy new hair growth for about 18 to 24 months. Because PRP is not permanent, touch-up treatments are recommended once a year.
Are there adverse effects? PRP is quite safe and the main drawback is post-procedure discomfort. Occasionally, a patient may experience a mild fever, swelling of the injected area, body aches, and fatigue for up to 3 days.
