Send money - Google Pay Help (2024)

You can use Google Pay to send money to friends and family in India using your mobile device. You’ll need an internet connection, an Indian bank account and an Indianphone number.

You can find people to send money to if they’re nearby or you can search for them by their:

  • Name
  • Phone number
  • UPI ID (typically friendname@bankname)
  • Bank Account and IFSC code

Send money to someone anywhere in India

To pay one of your contacts, no matter where in India they are:

  1. Open Google PaySend money - Google Pay Help (1).
  2. From the bottom of the screen, tap "New Payment"
  3. Search for the person or contact you want to send money.
  4. Once you select the person/contactare provided, in next screen, enter the amount.
    • Make sure you enter the correct details. Once you send the money, the transaction can’t be cancelled.
  5. Tap Pay.
  6. Enter the amount and description and select the form of payment.
  7. Tap Proceed to pay.
  8. Enter your UPI PIN.

When the money has been sent, you’ll get a notification. You'll also receive an SMS from your bank with the debited amount.

Note:If your transaction to your contact’s bank account fails, the bank might debitthe money from your bank account and then refund it. In this case, you will receive two SMSes, one for the debit and the second for the refund.

Send money through UPI ID or VPA

Important: If your contact has a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) or a Unified Payment Interface (UPI) ID with another UPI or bank app, you can use it to send money through the Google Pay app.

  1. On your mobile device, open the Google Pay app Send money - Google Pay Help (2).
  2. Tap New.
  3. From the list of payment options, tap UPI ID or QR.
  4. Enter the recipient's UPI ID.
  5. Tap Verify Send money - Google Pay Help (3)Ok.
    • If you entered an incorrect UPI ID, to try again, enter the correct ID.
  6. At the bottom, tap Pay.
  7. Enter the amount and description.
  8. Tap Proceed to pay.
  9. Enter your UPI PIN.

Tips:

  • After the money is sent:
    • You get a notification.
    • The bank sends a text message with the debited amount.
  • If the transaction is unsuccessful, the bank can debit the money from your bank account then refund it. In this case, the bank sends a text message for the debit and another for the refund.

Send money through a QR code

To send money, you can scan a QR code through Google Pay.

  1. On your mobile device, open the Google Pay app Send money - Google Pay Help (4).
  2. At the top right, tap More Send money - Google Pay Help (5)Send money - Google Pay Help (6)Scan QR code.
  3. Scan the QR code.
  4. At the bottom, tap Pay.
  5. Enter the amount and description.
  6. Tap Proceed to pay.
  7. Enter your UPI PIN.

Tips:

  • After the money is sent:
    • “Success” shows on the screen.
    • The bank sends a text message with the debited amount.
  • If the transaction is unsuccessful, the bank can debit the money from your bank account then refund it. In this case, the bank sends a text message for the debit and another for the refund.

To find your QR code:

  1. On your mobile device, open the Google Pay app Send money - Google Pay Help (7).
  2. At the top left, tap More Send money - Google Pay Help (8)Send money - Google Pay Help (9)Display QR code.

Send money to external bank account

To pay one of your contacts, no matter where in India they are:

  1. Open Google PaySend money - Google Pay Help (10).
  2. Tap “New payment”in the screen, it will take you to payment options where you need to tapBank transferoption.
  3. Once you chose bank transfer, the screen will ask for following details.
    1. Recipient Name
    2. Recipient account number and re-enter once again.
    3. IFSC code
  4. Once above inputs are provided, in next screen, enter the amount.

Note:Make sure you enter the correct details. Once you send the money, the transaction can’t be cancelled.

  1. Tap Pay.
  2. Enter the amount and description and select the form of payment.
  3. Tap Proceed to pay.
  4. Enter your UPI PIN.

  4. Enter the recipient's UPI ID.
  5. Tap Verify Send money - Google Pay Help (12)Ok.

Common reasons why you can’t find someone

In Google Pay, the “Allow people to find you” setting isn’t automatically turned on.

If this setting isn’t turned on, a person isn’t searchable unless you’re already connected to them on Google Pay.

To turn on the “Allow people to find You” setting, the receiver must complete the following steps.

  1. Open the Google Pay app Send money - Google Pay Help (19).
  2. On the Payscreen Send money - Google Pay Help (20), at the top right, tap your profile picture or Account Send money - Google Pay Help (21).
  3. Tap Settings Send money - Google Pay Help (22) Privacy and Security Send money - Google Pay Help (23) How people find you on Google Pay.
  4. Select Allow people to find you.

You can search for someone in your contacts with their name, phone number, or email:

  • If a person is in your device contacts, you can search for them with their name.
  • If a person isn’t in your device contacts, you can search for them with their email address or phone number.
