As a kid growing up I’ll be honest and say I didn’t really care much about the environment. In fact, I would say the first time I got introduced to that showed the damage that could be done to our planet was probably watching the Captain Planet cartoonon a Saturday morning!
As an adult, things in my life are a bit different. I have a house full of energy saving lightbulbs, a new energy efficient boiler, we’ve stopped taking plastic bags in with our weekly Tesco online delivery and I’ve ever bought myself a refillable mug to use when I work out of a cafe!

Smartphone task apps
While apps like BeMyEye and Roamler are fantastic earners and canmake you thousands of poundsthey more often than not mean you need to go out and about in your car.
If you are unfamiliar about this type of work then it basically involves download the apps mentioned above to your phone and accepting a task. The tasks can be anything from going to a particular supermarket and take a photo of a co*ke-Cola display through to visit a particular pub brand, buy a Vodka and co*ke, take a picture of it and answer a handful of questions. The pay is quite good with most tasks taking a few minutes and paying around £5 each however with all the driving that you do going from store to store it’s not that kind on the environment!
Traditional Mystery Shopping
As above Mystery Shopping is similar to the Smartphone task apps however they tend to pay a fair bit less and actually end up taking you a lot longer to do as you have to write what can be quite a detailed report afterwards.
Also just like above, it can involve having to drive to these various outlets and more often not you can end up having to purchase things or consume products that might harm the environment!
On top of ‘out and about’ mystery shopping there is also the likes of edigitalresearch who offer the change to get items delivered to you from stores and you then write a report on your experience of getting the product or sometimes returning it. All of this comes with a LOT of cardboard and a LOT of plastic packaging depending on which outlet the item is coming from.
So what tasks are good then when it comes to earning decent money AND making sure you don’t damage the planet at the same time?
Well, any work you can do from home that doesn’t require items to be sent to you would be a starter.
