Genshin Impact’s Zhongli and Venti pretended to not know each other in Version 3.4’s Lantern Rite epilogue quest, despite having one of the oldest relationships in the game’s recorded lore. Both characters, along with the Traveler, Paimon, Xiao, Xiangling, Xingqiu, and Chongyun attend Hu Tao’s special dinner party. Surprisingly, however, a few of them acted as if they were not aware of each other’s existence up until that moment. Xiao is another one who pretends to only have met Zhongli during the reunion.
Genshin Impact's Zhongli and Venti, or the gods Rex Lapis and Barbatos, respectively, have been acquaintances for about two thousand years. Nonetheless, they insinuated they did not know each other in Genshin Impact’s 2023 Lantern Rite epilogue. This is because both of them live under the guise of human civilians in the neighboring regions and hide their godly status from most of those around them. In fact, allegedly not even Hu Tao knows that Zhongli, the consultant at the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, is the Geo Archon’s human form.

Zhongli’s True Identity In Genshin Impact Is A Secret
In Genshin Impact, Zhongli’s true adeptus identity is a secret known to only a few distinct characters. Aside from the Traveler and Paimon, a few adepti and other gods know him as Morax, as well as Childe and the late Signora. Although Venti jests, saying that Wangsheng Funeral Parlor’s consultant “deliberately ignored the sound of the wind”, as noted by AZureMaxx on YouTube, he also maintains Zhongli’s disguise in Genshin Impact. This is due to two reasons: Zhongli and Venti are actually friends, and Venti has an interest in preserving his own act as a bard.
Venti & Zhongli Want To Live As Mere Humans In Genshin Impact
Genshin Impact’s Zhongli and Venti do not want their godly identities to be wide-spread to most mortals. In fact, keeping them a secret is the very foundation of the way they currently rule their respective regions. Zhongli staged the assassination of Rex Lapis during the Rite of Descension to be able to free the people of Liyue from the contracts that bound them to him. Venti, on the other hand, has always ruled Genshin Impact’s Mondstadt region from afar, which is why it is known as the Region of Freedom.
After the dinner, Genshin Impact’s Zhongli gently reminds Xiao why both of them and Venti must continue to pretend that he is not a god and why he must be referred to as Zhongli rather than Rex Lapis. Venti takes off to explore Liyue Harbor – and meet Kaedahara Kazuha on The Crux in search of wine – while Xiao returns to Wangshu Inn and Zhongli returns to his mortal affairs at the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. Before all this happens, however, players go through an emotional questline and have the chance to play many different mini-games. In fact, they may even get a free character in Genshin Impact’s Lantern Rite this year, including the new Dendro support character, Yaoyao.
