Element 111 Rg (2024)

Element Series 12 Roentgenium-The Ultimate Lv3-The Ultimate Time by DarkX

―DarkX

Element 111 Rg, often shortened to simply Rg, was a 1.5/1.6 Demon created and published by DarkX (also known as Foldering) on 7 April 2014. The level is a part of the Element Series. It is one of the hardest levels ever created, but it was deleted from the servers and forever lost in time. The level is infamous for its ridiculous difficulty and its well-made secret way.

The Geometry World (GW) community at that time considered this level to be more difficult than levels such as Silent Club and unnerfed Stereo Demoness. Its true difficulty is currently being debated, ranging from around Top 1-10.

History[]

Creation[]

See also: Element Series

Element 111 Rg began as part of the Element Series hosted by PMCreatorArco in February 2014. There were no set rules for each level other than naming them after the elements of the Periodic Table. Thus, the creators could freely make their levels at any difficulty or design they wanted. However, number 111 by DarkX was far more different than the others. DarkX participated in this project on 17 March 2014 and was assigned to build the levels for the 12th series of the elements of the Periodic Table from numbers 111-118. DarkX's most notable level in the series was Element 111 Rg. The earliest known documentation of its creation was around 26 March 2014, when DarkX uploaded a screenshot of the level's unique ship part. When Silent Club was released on 1 April 2014, DarkX was inspired by this level to build some parts of Element 111 Rg.[1]

Recognition of its difficulty[]

After DarkX uploaded the level on 7 April 2014, RobTop rated it three days later, on 10 April 2014, despite having no proper verification video. Numerous members of the GW community complained about its extreme difficulty at the time, with most being unable to get to 100% in Practice Mode (the farthest known Practice Run so far was around 41%). One player stated that its difficulty rivaled unnerfed Stereo Demoness.[1]

Secret way and eventual downfall[]

It was quickly revealed one day later, on 11 April 2014, there was a secret way at 4% involving corner jumps, thus causing the news about it to spread quickly. Many lashed out that DarkX should not have made Element 111 Rg with such difficulty, tarnishing his reputation as a creator. Afterwards, DarkX decided to compensate for the player's complaints about its difficulty by nerfing the level. Although the secret way was patched, another secret way existed, although it is unknown what it was, and the main path in the nerfed version was still extremely difficult. This event ultimately led to the level getting unrated on 15 April 2014.[1] As the result of backlash for creating the level, PMCreatorArco had to kick DarkX out of the Elements series and replace him with Sundal and Pailyn.[2] The level was later deleted permanently by RobTop's later purge sometime after 19 April 2014. To this day, there is still no known copy of the original level due to getting removed before the Level Copy feature existed.

Reconstruction and return to relevancy[]

Stormfly headhunted the true version of the level since 2019, having spent over 50 hours from the Naver forums searching and hoping for more information about the level. However, the efforts of getting the replica became fruitless due to a variety of reasons:

  1. The creator appeared to have kept the entire level's true appearance a secret unless someone completes it on the normal route.
  2. DarkX disappeared right after the level got unrated and was never heard from again.
  3. Since the level was deleted around Update 1.7, where the level copy and deletion feature were implemented, no known copy of the level is available today.
  4. There are no YouTube videos related to the level before Restoration Union's version of the level.
  5. Everyplay's services were discontinued on 1 October 2018. Thus any possible recordings of the level in the services are deleted.
  6. While DarkX himself messaged BEkID1442 to create an auto showcase of the level, the private message can no longer be retrieved since Naver's private message purges the oldest messages in a few days, similar to Skype, albeit in a shorter time. In addition, nobody has been able to get in contact with BEkID1442.
  7. Despite managing to contact PMCreatorArco himself and getting a backup of the level through the use of Titanium Backup because, at that time, there was no account system, no one could play the actual copy as the level's data was saved after the deletion. At the very least, the backup confirmed the song used was Time Machine.

At the same time, when Stormfly started researching Element 111 Rg and uploading a documentary video regarding the mysterious level, it returned to relevancy with more new information people gathered among the players who remembered or played the level back then. The first reconstruction of the level, made in May 2020 by Stormfly, was substantially built using what players who played the level remembered from it. The level used Electroman Adventures as the song, which made it a lot different since the actual song for the original level was now known for using Time Machine. In June 2021, the level received an update by changing some parts according to the new information about the level. A notable change was from the information gathered from GW Zac, one of the two players who reached 41% in practice mode. GW Zac borrowed some of Element 111 Rg's gimmicks in his other level known as 'Leap of Mistrust'. The song was also changed from Electroman Adventures to xStep. In May 2022, the level received another update, which is now the current version.

The song was changed again from xStep to Time Machine, and with more information found about the level, more parts were updated to be, in theory, as close as possible to the original.

The reconstruction has kept getting more updates for better accuracy.

Song[]

The song of the level was unknown for many years. While there were song lines in a screenshot of the level that DarkX shared, they did not appear to line up with any song in the game at the time. The song was initially assumed to be Electroman Adventures, simply due to the similar decoration at the beginning. However, since DarkX created most of the level in Update 1.5 before Electroman Adventures was released, it did not make sense for the level to use that song.

After a while, the Restoration Union realised that BEkID1442's video had a clue to the level's song. While the video barely showed any gameplay, it did show a transition into a ship section occurring 15 seconds into the level. The only song synced to 15 seconds was xStep, so the song was assumed to be xStep based on that, although there was still minimal evidence.

Later, people noticed that DarkX's screenshot might still hold the answer to the correct song. It was noticed that several of the editor grid lines were missing from the image, most likely due to the image's poor quality. The Restoration Union realised that the same might be true for the song lines as well, and Time Machine was the only song that even remotely matched. In addition, the description of the level said "The Ultimate Time", which provided further evidence of the song being Time Machine, although it was not realised at first. The Restoration Union also found a way to data-mine save files and found one that still had the original level downloaded. Although the level could not be played, Time Machine could be seen as the song. This discovery was further proven when the Restoration Union came into contact with PMCreatorArco, who still had the level info saved in a backup of his account.

Verifying the restored version[]

Ever since the Restoration Union uploaded the theoretical version of Element 111 Rg, numerous players began attempting to verify the level. SpeedyMuffin and KPGDylan attempted to make some progress on different versions of the level. The most progress achieved in the more updated version was KPGDylan's record of 24%.[3]

Trick was one of the first players to achieve a huge record on any version, crashing at 41%.[4]

TheRealMike began practising the level on a newer version, getting 93-100% and 77-100% as his first records.[5][6] Soon after, TheRealMike would pass the 41% ship part in a 41-81% run.[7] He would eventually crash at 41% on 15 November 2023.[8] He would surpass that record by a single percentage on 11 January 2024,[9] getting 52% on 8 February 2024,[10] 54% on 15 February 2024,[11] 60%,[12] and finally, the furthest recorded run on the level, 86% after over 245,000 attempts.[13]

Xanii, on the other hand, supposedly also crashed at 86%, giving him a tied world record with TheRealMike.[14] Zoink also joined the race to verify the level, with his furthest record of 49%.[15]

TheRealMike would seemingly verify the most up-to-date restored version on 19 March 2024.[16] However, it was quickly discovered that TheRealMike made nerfs to the level.[17][18] TheRealMike claimed he accidentally verified a nerfed copy of the level, a claim debunked by paqoe.[19][20] Xanii later admitted to cheating on his record as he only wanted to disrupt TheRealMike's progress.[21]

TheRealMike began trying to beat the unnerfed version; however, he would drop the verification, stating that he felt like the level had inflated his ego and to improve as a person, he had to drop the level.[22]

After this, other players would join the race, such as Mentrillum, achieving runs of 23%, 21-42% and 56-100%[23][24] and Sulky with 39%, 39-100% and 27-82%.[25]

The restored version was finally verified by paqoe on 11 April 2024 using the Click Between Frames mod.[26]

Gameplay[]

Element 111 Rg (1)It has been requested that this page be rewritten and expanded to include more information.
Note: This gameplay refers to the third reconstructed version out of the current six versions.

  • 0-11%: The level starts with a cube section containing tight jumps. It then turns into a ball section with many mirror portals, making the timings incredibly difficult. It then turns back into a cube section where there is a precise timing of a blue orb onto the edge of a block with a spike, followed by a few more cube timings over spikes with mirror and gravity portals, making them very difficult.
  • 11-29%: It becomes a ship segment where the player must manoeuvre around many saws while going through mirror portals. It then goes into a tight diagonal tunnel section where the player must precisely fly between many spikes. It then turns into a cube, where the player must jump over a peculiar quadruple-spike structure, jump through a ball portal over five spikes, and then jump over a quadruple-mini-spike. Then, it turns into a mini-ball with many tight timings between spikes. Then, there is a tight yellow orb timing where the player must avoid a group of spikes.
  • 29-44%: There is a short ship segment with many saws to avoid. Afterwards is a cube memory section with many spikes and breakable blocks, and then a ship segment with many saws that blend in with the dark background, making them impossible to see. After this, there is the infamous straight-fly segment where the player must straight-fly as the mini-ship through the middle of two rows of breakable blocks. Fitting through the gaps at the end of each row requires every block to be broken, making it extremely difficult and likely the hardest part of the level.
  • 44-57%: The level changes to a ball section with quick blue orb spam and several timings with mirror portals. It then changes to a cube for tight jumps, including two where the player must hit a yellow orb masked behind a blue orb. There are then two blue orb spam sections as the cube.
  • 57-71%: It then changes into a UFO where the player must hit pink orbs to stay between the spikes on the top and bottom, which is made harder due to the mirror and gravity portals in the section, followed by a few more UFO timings. Next, it changes into a ship where the player must straight-fly while avoiding blue orbs. Then, it becomes a tunnel that goes up and down with many gravity portals, requiring precise ship control and maneouvreing.
  • 71-100%: There is a memory cube section with a large cluster of orbs, blocks and saws. Then, it becomes a long ball section with precise timings. Following this is a one-block wide straight-fly with gravity portals, then a mini-ship segment with more straight-flying. It then becomes a UFO with timings to go between pillars with spikes. Then, there is another UFO section where the player must maneouvre around saws, and the level finally ends with a tight mini-ship gap.

Secret way[]

  • At 2%, it is possible to jump onto the platform above instead of going down and hitting the blue orb. Then, with precise timing, it is possible to jump off the edge of a block with a spike and hold down to keep jumping on the edges of blocks to get to the secret way. The level is then free up to 100%.

Trivia[]

  • The level is free to copy.
  • The level contains 7,826 objects.
  • The level is 1m 37s in length.
  • Before Geometry Dash, DarkX was known to create Super Mario World kaizo levels under the name 'Mtrules' two years before he created Element 111 Rg.
  • The level's secret way was once removed by RobTop, according to an email sent to BEkID1442. This decision makes it one of the only instances of RobTop removing a secret way by himself.
  • The reconstruction of the level has currently gone through six different versions.
  • Due to 2.2's physics changes, the secret way is no longer possible.
  • Element 111 Rg was assumed to be the hardest level when uploaded, meaning it was supposedly the 12th former Top 1 Demon in the game's history.[27]

Element 111 Rg (6)This page is about an upcoming level. Keep in mind that all information on this page is subject to change. Please read at your own risk, as it may contain spoilers.

Element 111 Rg is an upcoming 2.1 Extreme Demon mega-collaboration hosted by Stormfly. It is a reconstruction of the deleted and lost 1.6 level Element 111 Rg by DarkX, created for the Element Series.

While only one decorated part in development (Komatic5) has been shown, the new level supposedly intends to be a 2.1-style laboratory theme, fitting the element name but departing from the original level's theme.
