Is Google discontinuing my maps? ›

On October 15, 2021, the My Maps app for Android devices will be shut down and removed from the Play Store.

In other words, Google Maps is put into a sleep state, and as a result, the app is prevented from showing up on Android Auto. To fix this, all you need to do is go to Device Care on your Samsung smartphone and check out the settings for Google Maps.

To fix Google Maps, try restarting the app, checking your Wi-Fi connection, updating the app, optimizing Google Maps' location accuracy, and clearing the cache and data in your device's storage settings. Keep reading for more tips.

Scroll down the list until you find Maps, and tap on it. On the next screen you'll see a big button titled "Uninstall updates." Tap on it and smile.

You may need to update your Google Maps app, connect to a stronger Wi-Fi signal, recalibrate the app, or check your location services. You can also reinstall the Google Maps app if it isn't working, or simply restart your iPhone or Android phone.

Android Auto will give you voice-guided navigation, estimated arrival times, live traffic information, lane guidance and more with Google Maps or your favorite navigation app.

Common reasons Android Auto isn't working properly

You may be using a car or smartphone that's not Android Auto compatible. You may have software issues, including an outdated Android operating system or Android Auto app. You may have a bad wired or wireless connection. You may be using a faulty app.

For multi-stop route planning, consider Routific, Route4Me, or RoadWarrior. For live traffic info, look at Waze, ViaMichelin, or Bing Maps. For outdoor adventures, the best choices are Komoot, PlotaRoute, or AllTrails. For public transit, choose Here WeGo, Apple Maps, or CityMapper.

Clear the app's cache & data

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Settings app . Tap Apps & notifications. Follow the steps on your device to find the Maps app. After you select the app, storage & cache options should be available.

Click on the question mark enclosed in a gray speech bubble on the bottom right of the map. You'll see this dialog where you can get help. At the bottom there's an option to Return to classic Google Maps. Click it.

Use My Maps to create or view your own maps. My Maps isn't available for Android, but you can view your My Maps using Google Maps on your computer.

Apple didn't renew its licence with Google; that still had some months to run when iOS 6 was introduced.
