What does DCX stand for? ›

The embodiment of our newest, most exacting build processes, DCX keycaps are made from ultra-substantial, proprietary ABS material that's neither shiny nor hollow-sounding.

GMK produces keycaps in the “Cherry” profile (which refers to the overall shape of the keycaps) while “DCX” refers to the profile of Drop's keycaps.

It has been accepted that DCX in mammals is a marker of young neurons, but that it also labels some cells that are reorganizing their dendritic arbor (another form of plasticity that requires microtubule reorganization and thus DCX expression).

Soak your keycaps in warm soapy water to remove any dust or grime. Ideally, swish them around for the first 5-10 minutes, and then let them soak for an additional 45 minutes.

Use Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) for cleaning.

Be careful not to be too forceful when cleaning to avoid damaging your keyboard.

PBT (or “polybutylene terephthalate”) is one of the hardest and most durable keycap materials available. Unlike other materials, PBT does not turn yellow over time, and is extremely resistant to heat and chemicals.

It only takes a simple glance at any of the GMK sets to see the care and craftsmanship that goes into each keycap. Their handcrafted quality as well as their attention to detail (especially in the designer sets) are the reason why keyboard fans hold them at such a high standard.

Is GMK ABS better than PBT? ›

ABS is a softer plastic and produces a milder, softer sound. PBT is harder and produces a more tactile sound. Neither is better, it's up to preference, but there are a lot of fans of the sound a premium ABS keycap like GMK produces.

DCX-positive (DCX+) cells in the dentate gyrus receive synaptic GABAergic input and migrate into the inner third of the granule cell layer [4], [12], [13], [14]. DCX+ cells are also found in the neurogenic subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricle, where they mark the migratory A cells [1].

Newly generated cells migrating from the neurogenic zones are DCX positive, and mutations in the DCX protein would lead to migration disorders causing lissencephaly and SBH. Hence, DCX has been adopted as a marker of neurogenesis in the SVZ and SGZ.

Doublecortin (DCX) domains serve as protein-interaction platforms. Mutations in members of this protein superfamily are linked to several genetic diseases.

Surface wear is inevitable; all keycaps will gradually lose their rough surface texture over time. Depending on the material used for the keycap, the rate of wear will differ significantly. Some keycaps from the 70s and 80s, such as those used on the Futaba keyboards for the BBC Microcomputer, greatly resisted wear.

The first thing you need is a PBT keycap because it has a high melting point. Other types of plastic or other types of keycaps will melt in your oven and very likely release toxic and noxious fumes.

The longer you can leave your keycaps out, the better. Even the smallest amount of moisture left behind can drip down the stems, onto your switches, and cause damage to your keyboard. Leave them out for a few hours at least. If you're impatient, you can use a hairdryer on a low setting to speed up the drying.

Is it safe to vacuum a keyboard? ›

The short answer is yes—you can use a vacuum to suck out all the crumbs and debris, but be careful. Many keyboards have pop-off keys that a standard home vacuum might easily suck up. A better idea is to use a USB-powered vacuum designed for keyboard cleaning.

Leave the keycaps out to air dry.

You may want to leave them out for 24 hours, to make sure they're completely dry and won't damage your computer. Don't use a paper towel to dry the keycaps, as this can scratch the surface and leave particles behind.

Blank/engraved white keycaps are very easy to clean though, just soak them in bleach and they'll come out white again. If you keep your hands dirty while typing, then you can expect the keycaps to get dirty.

ABS Keycaps

ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) plastic is a very common type of material used in toys, keycaps, 3D printing and even LEGO! ABS is known to be quite durable as well, which means it can hold up for long periods of time.

PBT keycaps sets typically use more material than an ABS keycap set and are usually heavier. While it depends on the manufacturer, PBT tends to have a deeper, crisper, and less tinny sound when typing than that of a typical ABS keycap set.

Cherry profile keycaps are the most comfortable design on the market. They are shorter than the OEM keycaps, but they have a similar structure. Cherry keycaps satisfy all tastes, no matter if used for gaming or typing purposes, mostly because they are comfortable to use.

epbt is a bit more texture and has more of a "grip". It will not shine near as fast as GMK will. GMK can shine within the first month with heavy use. The epbt should be a bit cheaper as well.

Re: What is the most expensive keycap? The Spumoni mx Clack is currently valued at $900.

These keys are amazing! They feel very smooth and fit nicely in my keyboard. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a great Zelda keycap set. It comes with a full set but I only took a picture of the keys on my keyboard.

Do PBT keycaps get greasy? ›

ABS keycaps are the cheapest and most common plastic used for keycaps. PBT plastic is less common but is usually higher quality than ABS. ABS keycaps feel smooth and develop a greasy shine over time, while PBT keycaps feel textured and are more durable.
