If you’re new to Axie Infinity, then this guide will guide you right through the ins- and outs of this fast-growing universe that now sees over $100M in monthly volume.

The Game

Axie Infinity currently counts close to 200,000 daily players.

In order to play the game, users currently need the following:

An ERC-20 wallet with some ETH (we’d recommend MetaMask). ETH can be purchased on all major cryptocurrency exchanges, we’d recommend: Binance, KuCoin, or Coinbase.
A Ronin wallet (address), which you can download and create here.
ETH on your Ronin wallet, which you can send from an exchange or your ERC-20 wallet through the Ronin Bridge.
Once you have ETH on your Ronin Wallet, purchase 3 axies so that you can create a team in-game. These can be purchased on the Axie Infinity Marketplace.
You can create an account on the marketplace in the top right corner, follow all steps.
Download the game on the home page, by clicking ‘Play Now’ in the top right corner.

That’s it! You now purchased your very first three axies and can create a team. Later in this guide, we’ll go over some of the basics to selecting the right axies to fight with (and breed).

The game play is very interesting, as players get to choose if they would prefer to fight in the arena against other players to earn SLP. Or, if they’d rather play adventure mode in which players fight monsters to unlock new levels, train their axies (levelling) and earn SLP.

What is an Axie?

As mentioned, players can trade, breed and fight with Axies in the game. Axies are basically digital creatures, each with their own traits.

There are various different classes:

Plant
Beast
Bird
Aquatic
Bug
Reptile
Mech
Dawn
Dusk

As well as six body parts: eyes, ears, horn, mouth, back, and tail. When buying your first Axie, the horn, mouth, back and tail are most important as these determine which cards your Axie can use in a battle.

Buying your first Axies on the Axie Infinity Marketplace

Axies are always purchased on the Axie Infinity Marketplace. With the user base exploding, axies saw an increase in price throughout the past couple of months. This makes it very important you think your first purchase through and select the right axies to maximise your winning potential and SLP earnings.

Personally, we would recommend to only purchase axies that have a 0 breed count, as this enables you to breed your axies (more about this later) to create more axies which you can either use to play, or sell for money.

You can search for specific axies by using the filter in the left side of the screen. Personally, I would recommend using the following filters:

Class: Beast, Plant & Bird
Stage: Adult
Breed count: 0
Pureness: 6

Currently, that would result into 2,121 different axies.

If you’re planning on using your axies for breeding, then definitely make sure to download the Freak’s Axie Extension, as it shows you exactly which genes and pureness % the axies have. I typically look for axies that have 90%+ pureness, but if you’re just getting started 80% could work as well.

Personally, I used the following team when I started (and still do to date):

Plant: Pumpkin, Carrot, Serious, Beech (the eyes and ears don’t matter)
Bird: Hungry Bird, Kestrel, Raven/Cupid, The Last One (the eyes and ears don’t matter)
Beast: Ronin, Imp, Cottontail, Goda (the eyes and ears don’t matter)

All three axies were 0 bred and 6/6 in pureness. Making them great for breeding down the road.

How much can I earn playing Axie Infinity?

Many wonder, how much can I earn playing Axie Infinity? And, do I actually need to buy a team to play Axie Infinity?

We recently published our Scholarship Guide, in which you can learn more about how you can play the game and earn SLP Tokens without having to buy a team yourself first. This is a great way to get started to figure out if you like playing the game without having to break the bank.

I personally also run a Scholarship in which over 20 people currently play. Looking at their average earnings, I would say that the average player earns between 150-200 SLP per day, which is currently worth $20-27 a day in tokens.

Realistically, the longer you play the more SLP you will earn per day because you’ll understand the mechanics of the game, get better at battling and figure out which adventure levels provide the best rewards. Also the more axies you earn, the more energy you will generate in-game, which enables you to earn more SLP in adventure mode.

The higher your win-rate in the arena, the more you earn. Some players earn over 600 SLP per day for example, which would be $80 a day.

Axie Infinity: Breeding Axies

Besides playing the game, some people find a better fit breeding axies for profit. They either breed them for scholarships, breed them to create a big collection of Axies, or breed them to sell them on the Axie Infinity marketplace.

Breeding axies isn’t necessarily difficult, but breeding the right axies certainly can be tricky. This is how it works:

Each Axie can be bred 7 times. Breeding costs 4 AXS, and an additional number of SLP tokens. Breeding axies takes two adult axies (that aren’t brother/sister) as well.

Using the extension mentioned earlier enables you to check out your axies genetics. This is incredibly important as it decides what the offspring will be like.

Dominant (D): 37.5% chance to pass this gene to offspring.

Recessive (R1): 9.375% chance to pass this gene to offspring.

Minor Recessive (R2): 3.125% chance to pass this gene to offspring.

You can also use one of the available calculators to look up the probabilities when breeding two axies. Do note: the team recently introduced ‘mutations’ which put in random genes into your offspring, making it more difficult to breed (100%) pure axies.

It takes five days for an egg to become an adult, after which it can be used to breed more axies. To create a continuous breeding cycle one would need 3 different axies (e.g. 3 birds, 3 monsters or 3 plants), called A, B & C.

I personally breed all my axies three times to grow the total number of axies I have exponentially. Besides using them in Scholarships, I sell them on the marketplace for a profit.

At current prices, it would cost:

1x bred: $22,50 in AXS + $39 in SLP = $61,50

2x bred: $22,50 in AXS + $78 in SLP = $100,50

3x: bred: $22,50 in AXS + $117 in SLP = $139,50

The cheapest 0 bred Axie is currently $246,41 making it very profitable to go create a breeding farm.

Axie Infinity: Land Play & Items

The team also created ‘Funacia’, the Axie homeland. This land is divided into 90,601 different plots that can be purchased by players. They act as the home and base of operation for your team, and can be upgraded through resources and crafting ingredients that are found when playing the game.

Land gameplay is currently being developed and will be released in phases. Though, land plots are already incredibly popular and the cheapest land available on the Axie Infinity marketplace right now is worth $3,000.
