Why You Should Check Your SSS Contribution Online

Checking your contributions via SSS online is beneficial in several ways.

  • If you’re employed, ensuring your employer pays your contributions correctly and on schedule lets you avoid a 2% monthly penalty for late payments.
  • If you’re self-employed or a voluntary member, checking your SSS payments helps you see if you have any missed or incorrect payments.

There’s no penalty if you miss a payment, but the SSS doesn’t let you pay retroactively for missed contributions. If you don’t qualify for a loan due to insufficient funds, you can’t make a retroactive payment to make up for it.

  • Checking your contributions online can help determine if you’re eligible for an SSS salary loan or housing loan. You can also see if you qualify for other member privileges like disability or unemployment benefits.

How Business Owners Can Pay SSS Contributions Online

SSS has several partners to help you remit your employees’ SSS monthly payments more efficiently. If you’re not familiar with how to pay SSS contributions, the first step is to generate your employees’ Payment Reference Number (PRN). You can log into your SSS account to do this. After generating the PRN, you can submit it along with the payment amount through any partner center.

Employers can make SSS online payments through BancNet’s eGov portal, which has 19 participating banks. These banks include:

  • Asia United Bank (AUB);
  • Bank of Commerce (BOC);
  • China Bank Corporation (CBC);
  • CTBC Bank;
  • Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company (MBTC);
  • MUFG Bank;
  • Philippine Bank of Communications (PBCom);
  • Philippine National Bank (PNB);
  • Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC);
  • Robinsons Bank (RBC);
  • Standard Chartered Bank (SCB); and
  • United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB)

In 2018, employers also started using GCash to make contributions. However, you will still need a new PRN for each payment.

Types of SSS Contributions You Can Check Online

Depending on your SSS membership category, here are the different types of SSS contributions you can make and check online:

Monthly contributions If you’re an employer, this contribution refers to your payments on your employees’ behalf. You’re responsible for enrolling your employees into the system on their first employment day.

Self-employed or voluntary member contributions These are payments of a self-employed (SE) or voluntary member (VM). Unlike employees, self-employed individuals and voluntary members must self-enroll in the system. If you belong to this category, your coverage begins on your first contribution payment.

Flexi-fund These are payments you should make if you are an overseas Filipino worker (OFW). You must self-enroll into the system, and coverage begins when you pay your first SSS contribution.

Worker’s Investment and Savings Program (WISP) – WISP is a voluntary retirement savings program that applies if you are self-employed, contributing voluntarily, or working overseas. Your payments toward WISP are tax-free. To qualify, you need to satisfy the following requirements:

  • updated contributions to the regular SSS program;
  • monthly salary credit over ₱20,000; and
  • no final claim in the regular SSS program.

Employees’ contribution payments and loan repayments Your SSS account lets you access a record of all your employees’ past contributions and loan repayments.

Payment reference number (PRN) – The PRN is SSS’ generated number you must use when paying your contributions or loans. You must generate a new PRN for every payment via your SSS online account.

Employee-submitted sickness and maternity reimbursem*nt claims If you’re an employee who cannot work due to an illness or pregnancy, you may claim sickness and maternity reimbursem*nt benefits. You can receive daily cash allowances under these claims. Your employer can view these claims through their SSS account.

Employees’ salary loan and retirement certification Salary loans are your cash loan entitlements as an employed, self-employed, or voluntary member making active contributions. Retirement certification proves you’re a retired employee eligible for retirement benefits.

Maternity notification, sickness notification, employment report form (Form R1A), contribution collection list (Form R-3), and loan collection list (Form ML-2) If you’re an employer, you may use Forms R1A and R-3 to track your employees’ contribution details. Meanwhile, you may use Form ML-2 to submit a list of your employees’ paid SSS loans.
