Market for Kennedy Half Dollars
You can still obtain Kennedy half dollars from some banks for face value and are quite common. Circulated coins minted from 1964 to 1970 derive most of their value from their silver content.
It is rare to see a half dollar in circulation today (not that the coins themselves are rare). It is worth mentioning that all circulation strike Kennedy half dollars from 1971 and later are just worth their face value of 50 cents.
Australia's rarest coin, the 1930 penny proof, sold for $225,000 in 1998. Only six proof versions of the 1930 penny are known to exist: three have private owners, one in the Museum of Victoria, the National Gallery of South Australia and the British Museum.
The 1970-D Kennedy Half Dollar was produced only in Mint Sets, and about two million coins were sold. This makes it the lowest mintage business strike from 1964 to 2005—until 2006, when mintages fell even lower. The Denver Mint produced mint state Kennedy Half Dollars in 1970.

Due to an error involving a double stamping that affected the lettering on the front of the penny, this rare coin is highly coveted by collectors. Only three examples are known to exist, and one in great condition sold at auction in 2018 from about $336,000.

They are, therefore, not particularly valuable. Specimen coins in their original red plastic cases can be found for just $10, while regular uncirculated coins might be bought for just $5 or so.
The 1838 Philadelphia-produced half dollars are extremely rare, with two separate specimens having sold for $632,500 in Heritage auctions in 2005 and 2008 respectively. The sole surviving Orleans minted 1838 is one of the rarest of all American coins. In 1840, this mint produced nearly 180,000 half dollars.
