Do wasps go on lavender?
Wasps are attracted to sweet-smelling plants like lavender and rosemary, so refrain from planting these too close to your property. If you have the space, opt for an area further away towards the back of your garden instead of near your home.
What scent or smell keeps wasps away? Wasps have a strong sense of smell and dislike certain plants like peppermint, spearmint, basil, eucalyptus, cloves, geranium, thyme, citronella, bay leaves, and lemongrass. They are also repelled by vinegar, cinnamon, coffee grounds, and sliced cucumber.
Research has shown that a combination of clove, geranium and lemon grass essential oils effectively repels wasps. You can combine several drops of each oil in soapy water then transferring it to a spray bottle.
Unlike the colorful and fragrant lavender plant, lavender essential oil actually repels wasps. The active ingredient linalool is what keeps all sorts of bugs away, including but not limited to fleas, fruit flies, wasps, and even bed bugs which are notoriously hard to get rid of.
Lavender.
About the only insects you see around lavender are bees. They love the flowers, but other bugs stay away. Lavender has a pleasant scent that comes from the essential oils in the leaves of the plant, but the bugs hate it.
For best results, wear white. This lack of color will typically make bees and wasps leave you alone. In fact, the next time you see a beekeeper, you'll know exactly why the outfit is white.
The best wasp-feeding flower of all is probably Figwort, once known as 'the wasp flower'. So my secret is simple: although you can't stop wasps coming into your garden, you can tempt them away using natural foods they love, and the same goes for ants, slugs, snails and other creatures that are seen as pests.
While both bumblebees (Bombus spp.) and honey bees (Apis mellifera) are attracted to lavender (Lavandula spp.), the plant is more popular among bumblebees.
Wasps love anything sweet– especially open bottles of soda or juice, ripe fruit, desserts, jams or honeys, and similar items. They are also attracted to protein foods such as meat, eggs and dairy products, so be sure to keep rubbish bins tightly covered and properly dispose of cooking scraps.
There are varying thoughts on bees and the flavor of their honey, but since bees will travel up to 6.5 miles from their hive, unless you own half the county, few hives will have honey from only one source. But, simply put, bees love lavender in bloom, as they love anything in bloom where they can get nectar or pollen.
