Can I listen to music during a proctored exam?
You must sit at a clean desk or table. The desk or walls around you must not have any writing. The room must be as quiet as possible. Sounds such as music or television are not permitted.

Honorlock listens for specific keywords or phrases, such as “Hey Siri” or “o*k Google,” and records test takers' audio during exams, not just voices.
The following items/actions are not permitted:
Make sure music/televisions are not playing in the background. Communication or receiving assistance from others is not permitted during a proctored assessment. Exceptions: contacting Honorlock support or your institution's help desk.
Test centers provide you with an erasable white board on which you can take notes. This is not allowed in an online proctored delivery environment. If you wish to take notes during your exam, please take the exam at a Pearson VUE test center.
To supervise your exam, ProctorU records your activity through your screen, keyboard, webcam, audio and system activity.
A: A student's test will not stop if noise is identified on the audio. Proctorio and ATI Test Security are very efficient at identifying true issues and what could be assumed as background noise. Test Security will only reach out if they believe a test taker was untruthful or a test has been compromised.
Proctorio only records during an exam and if the video/audio/screen recording settings are enabled by the exam administrator. Recording starts right as you enter the exam, after the diagnostics pre- check and exam agreement have been completed.
If the privacy of the testing area is broken, the online proctor will pause delivery of the ARE and address the privacy issue with the candidate.
Honorlock does not scan home networks or monitor data from any device on the network other than the one used for testing. Secondary devices, such as phones, can be detected, but this is not accomplished by network snooping.

Honorlock's AI listens for words that may indicate cheating, like "Hey Siri," instead of flagging irrelevant sounds, like coughing.
Can online proctoring detect cheating?
With the right procedures in place, any online exam can detect cheating. Authentication measures, web monitoring, data forensics, and proctoring (just to name a few) all make it hard for test takers to get away with ever cheating on your test.
Proctorio records the reasons why exam attempts ended to give full context as to what happened during the exam. Attempts that were ended for suspicious reasons will contain a red flag within the Gradebook row.
First, when taking an online-proctored exam you are required to have a computer, a monitor, and a webcam, as well as a CD or a mirror of some sort to show the proctor that you do not have any notes taped to the side of your monitor.
Actions and behaviors that will be flagged during an exam: Talking aloud: Unless you have an accommodation, talking or whispering aloud during the exam is not permitted. Being out of camera view: Your face, chin to forehead, needs to be in the camera view at all times.
A functioning microphone (some web cameras have them built-in); the microphone should not be part of headphones. Headphones are generally not permitted, check with your testing organization to determine if headphones are permitted. A compatible browser: Guardian (If applicable), Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox.
You are allowed to use the restroom during your Onsite proctored exam but here are some considerations to keep in mind: You will not be allowed access to your personal belongings. The exam timer will continue to countdown while you are away.
Proctorio does not track eye movements, but we may use facial detection to ensure test takers are not looking away from their exam for an extended period of time.
However, you are required to show your hands to the human Proctor before the start of the exam. ProctorU only monitors your audio, computer's audio, computer's screen, and your face to detect any cheating activity.
Can Online Proctoring Detect Screen Sharing? The answer to this question is a big capital, YES. In the Online examination system, the remote proctors can detect screen sharing. If the test taker uses the different tabs on the screen, Google anything, that would be notified.
Audio proctoring is the latest innovation in proctoring technology. An audio proctoring software uses a test-taker's microphone to efficiently identify minute details, such as whispers, low sound levels, mumbling, and other such inconsistencies, to ensure a secure assessment environment.
What should you not do in a proctored exam?
You must dress as though you were in a public setting. You must not communicate with any other person by any means. You must not use a phone for any reason. You must not leave the room during the exam for any reason.
ProctorU allows drinks while testing. However, food is generally not permitted as it may cause unnecessary distractions and noise during the exam. Please reach out to your institution/testing organization if you are unsure.
During the exam, a system of computers captures your movements and sends your video and other data to your instructor for review. Proctorio will flag activity that might not be allowed. Your instructor will then be able to review the video and data to decide if any action is necessary.
How does Honorlock protect my privacy? We use secure encrypted protocols to save and view all student assets. Honorlock's certified proctors and your institution's faculty are able to review test session videos until they are deleted based on the school's retention policy or after 12 months.
Honorlock doesn't require room scans. Room scanning is an option feature that can be enabled or disabled.
