Women’s Personal Finance Wednesdays: Week 21 Roundup - Tread Lightly, Retire Early (2024)

Women’s Personal Finance Wednesdays: Week 21 Roundup - Tread Lightly, Retire Early (1)

Welcome to another week of the Women’s Personal Finance Wednesdays roundup. I started this series after months of debate because I wasn’t certain I wanted to up the ante and commit to publishing three posts a week. However, now that I’ve started sharing these posts, I’m so glad I started.

There are so many fabulous women writing about personal finance online, and yet there is still a perception that women aren’t good with money, don’t care about money, or don’t understand it on a granular level beyond perhaps knowing how to coupon and score a good shopping deal. These roundups are my way of doing a small part to change that perception. There are no shortage of women online doing their part to make it clear that they DO understand money, and these posts are meant to amplify that fact.

The hardest part of this post every week always is narrowing it down to my favorites, because there is just so much good content out there. If you’re ever interested in what else I’m reading, I share quite a few other posts on Twitter (and that’s also where I read most of the content to begin with these days).

OurWomen’s Personal Finance Facebook groupalso has a sharing thread on Fridays, and that’s the place to read all the blog posts written by members over the previous week. If you’re looking for more articles written by women, that’s a great place to continue reading (plus we have plenty of great discussions on finances the rest of the week as well!).

If you don’t have the time or inclination to go searching down myriad posts, though, I will be continuing this series every week to showcase some of the best of the new content I read. If you ever read a post you thing I absolutely need to consider for this roundup, please let me know! I am always open to reading new blogs (and posts of blogs I do know, because I miss some).

Women’s Personal Finance Wednesdays – Week 21

1. Full Circle. Burning Desire For FIRE

Frogdancer Jones has clawed her way up from a really tough financial situation in the past two decades from when she was a young single mother of four boys. I’m consistently in awe of what she’s managed on a teacher’s salary, and she is closing in on her full financial independence number in her fifties.

She is a wonderful storyteller, and this post is another captivating story about just how far she’s come, and appreciating where she is now. Sometimes it’s easy to forget the hard early years of our financial journey, but it’s so important to look back with gratitude and know how amazing it is to be where we are now.

2. Net Worth Update: January 2019 Poorer Than You

Stephonee hit a $100,000 net worth for the very first time in January!! This is such a big freaking deal that I wanted to share here and celebrate with her. She and her husband make modest salaries in a very high cost of living area and have a young daughter, but with a lot of focus over quite a few years, they’ve ticked over this big milestone.

For those of us who don’t make huge salaries, the savings numbers shared in much of the personal finance community feel huge and unreachable (at least in a short period of time). I love the transparency in this post and the real numbers – and years – it took for them to save their first $100,000. Here’s to the next $100k, in hopefully much less time now that they’ve got size and compounding on their side.

3. 7 ways to manage money anxiety I Pick Up Pennies

Like I’ve said any number of times, money is absolutely an emotional thing, and one of those common emotions associated with finances is anxiety. Abigail recently got divorced and is working on her finances on her own for the first time in more than a decade. Even though she was always the money minded one in the relationship, going at it on her own brings on a whole new round of money anxieties, as well as ones she has dealt with for a long time.

This post is a great one for discussion the more emotional side of finances and good ways to work through them, though my favorite on the list is the last one (#7) for the raw honesty and acceptance in dealing with money related anxiety.

Ihope you enjoy the posts this week as much as I did. I read a ton of content and it was hard to narrow down my favorites. I’m looking forward to sharing some new ones with you again next week!

As always, if you’re looking for a categorized list of self identified women writing and speaking about personal finance, here is my comprehensive guide to theWomen of the Finance Independence Community.
