Ram just rolled out its first electric concept truck: the Revolution. The company is hoping to produce its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) for the 2024 model year. So will Ram‘s next TRX supertruck toss its Hellcat motor in favor of an electric powertrain? Very likely, the answer is yes.
Long live the Ram 1500 TRX
As it stands, the Ram 1500 TRX is Ram Trucks’ flagship vehicle. With its Hellcat engine and long-travel suspension, this is one of the gnarliest supertrucks around. The Ram TRX is inspired by desert racers. This truck excels at tearing through dunes or across the desert.
Ram is going through major changes, launching a new generation of its pickup truck and offering an electric version, for the 2024 model year. But Ram CEO, Mike Koval Jr., told Mopar Insiders that the TRX would survive beyond the 2023 model year.
So we know that the Ram 1500 TRX will survive into the dawn of the automaker’s electric era. The only question is whether the TRX will be one of Ram’s electric offerings.
The Ram 1500 Revolution is an electric supertruck
Ram’s first preview of its electric future is its Ram 1500 Revolution concept truck. The automaker unveiled this prototype at the Consumer Electronics Show, and it is already very much a supertruck.
The Ram 1500 Revolution actually shares some features with the TRX. It comes with 35-inch tires like the TRX. Not only that, but it rides on four-corner adjustable air suspension.
Ram has not revealed just how much power its electric Revolution will make. But we do know that Stellantis’ most powerful electric motor makes 442.5 horsepower. The Ram Revolution has two motors, one for each axle. So if Ram uses the most powerful motors available, it could build an 885 horsepower Revolution. Those numbers dwarf even the Ram 1500 TRX’s 702 horsepower.
Not only does a top trim Ram EV have the specs to be the automakers new flagship TRX, but it would benefit Ram to make its next TRX electric. Ram is attempting to transition into as electric a brand as possible. Making its flagship truck an EV might help win over some internal combustion fans.
Will Ram continue building an internal combustion TRX?
Dodge has announced it’s canceling the Hellcat engine by 2024. It seems unlikely that Stellantis would continue building this supercharged 6.2-liter V8 just for the Ram 1500 TRX. Ram would have to design a new generation of the TRX with a less powerful gasoline engine, which seems unlikely.
One candidate for the next internal combustion Ram 1500 TRX engine would be the Hurricane I6. The high-output version of this twin-turbocharged Hurricane makes more than 500 horsepower. A Hurricane-powered Ram 1500 TRX would be a step down from the Hellcat TRX, but not by too much.
Another option might be a hybrid version of the Hurricane I6. A small electric motor working with the Hurricane could bump total output to near Hellcat TRX numbers and keep the truck alive. A hybrid TRX would also fit well with Ram’s mission to go electric.

The 2024 Ram 1500 TRX Final Edition boasts 702 horsepower with Best-in-class torque thanks to the storied 6.2L Supercharged HEMI® V8 engine and a high-torque-capacity TorqueFlite® eight-speed automatic transmission.
Built on the strength of the new STLA Frame platform, the all-electric, zero-emission Ram 1500 REV is primed for performance with exceptional benchmarks in towing, payload, charge time and a manufacturer's estimated total driving range of 350 miles with the standard 168 kilowatt-hour battery pack or a manufacturer's ...
2025 Ram 1500 RHO Is a V-8-Less TRX That Costs about $26K Less Too. Ram's wide-body off-road truck still has a Baja-ready suspension, but now it has a 540-hp twin-turbo straight-six and starts at $71,990.
Priced from $119,620, including a $1,995 destination charge, the special-edition truck will be limtied to 4,000 units worldwide, though Ram will continue to offer a regular 1500 TRX with the Hellcat for 2024 until production of the engine finally ceases at the end of this year.
The price of the 2025 Ram 1500 REV is expected to start around $58,000 and go up to $85,000 depending on the trim and options. Ram hasn't said how much the 2025 Ram 1500 EV will cost, what trim levels will be available, or what equipment will be standard and optional.
The 2025 Ram 1500 TRX is losing its signature V-8, but it won't cease to exist. Our video of a prototype TRX suggests the off-road pickup will live on with a new six-cylinder engine. The facelifted TRX will likely have a Hurricane twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six, which could be good for up to 550 horsepower.
Stellantis will no longer offer the popular Hemi V-8 engine in 2025-model light-duty Ram pickup trucks and instead will offer six-cylinder combustion engines, in addition to the previously announced battery-electric Ram REV and the Ramcharger, the automaker said.
At the dragstrip, the Hellcat's two-horsepower advantage is crushed by the extra 740 pounds the TRX lugs wherever it goes. It arrives at 60 mph 0.2 second behind the Raptor R, with that gap doubling through the quarter mile.
The price of the 2024 Ram 1500 TRX starts at $98,335 and goes up to $119,620 depending on the trim and options. Even though the TRX starts just north of $80,000, it's a lot of truck for the money.
The TRX System, also known as Total Resistance Exercises, refers to a specialized form of suspension training that utilizes equipment developed by former U.S. Navy SEAL Randy Hetrick.
The Ram 1500 TRX Havoc edition is just one of many fast and powerful trucks that are a part of the Ram truck lineup. A 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8 engine gives this truck an impressive performance on and off the road.
While it trades a Hellcat V-8 for a Hurricane straight-six, the RHO keeps the TRX's wide body and hardcore off-road hardware. The 2025 Ram 1500 RHO will succeed the mighty TRX, trading that truck's 702-hp supercharged V-8 for a twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six with 540 horses.
Depending on the model, the Ram 1500 has waiting times ranging from three to nine months locally, while the flagship Ram TRX supercharged high-performance pick-up is currently pushed out to two years in Australia, despite its $200,000-plus price tag.
Ram explicitly said that the 2024 model year is “not the end of the TRX's story.” The brand has promised “more news to come at a later date.” Ram distinguishing that it was ending production of the 1500 TRX “powered by the 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI® V-8 engine” still leaves room for Ram to bring that truck back ...
The 2024 Ram 1500 TRX came, saw, and continues to conquer. With 702 horses and Best-in-Class 650 lb-ft. of torque at your command, its reign can't be denied.
of torque, this beast propels the Ram TRX to a top speed of 118 mph, offering an unmatched driving experience. The performance doesn't stop there; the 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8 engine pairs seamlessly with a high-torque-capacity TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.
