No, Brave Ads do not replace the ads that the Brave Browser blocks on web pages. Instead, Brave Ads are displayed privately to you, and served directly from the browser—your data never leaves your device.
For now, there are four kinds of Brave Ads. The first three are browser-based: sponsored images on new tabs; sponsored cards in the Brave News feed; and infrequent push notifications. The fourth ad unit is search ads, which appear at the top of some query results in Brave Search.

Brave Rewards is available on all desktop devices (Linux, macOS, and Windows), and on Android mobile devices.
On iOS, Brave Rewards can only be used to support creators. Learn why.

Currently, you can earn Brave Rewards by enabling Brave Ads. Soon, you’ll also be able to earn by using Brave Swap Rewards in the Brave Wallet (where Brave Rewards users will earn a 20% $BAT rebate on Brave Swap transaction fees).

You’ll receive your BAT rewards each month. You can see your BAT balance and your upcoming earnings by clicking or tapping the
(BAT icon) in the address bar of the Brave Browser.To withdraw your BAT from the Brave Rewards ecosystem to trade on an exchange, or use in other secondary markets and apps, you’ll need to verify as a Brave Rewards user with one of our custodial partners. However, note this is only required if you want to withdraw your BAT from the Brave Rewards ecosystem. You’re free to earn and tip within Brave Rewards without verifying, and this is the default behavior for Brave Rewards.

Currently, Brave Ads appear in three places: as push notifications, as sponsored cards in the Brave News feed, and as sponsored images on a new browser tab.
- Push notification ads are opt in, and you can opt out again at any time, either by disabling them or by turning their frequency to 0 in Brave Rewards settings. Push notification ads are designed to be shown only when the time is right, and default to display a maximum of 5 times per hour. You can choose to change this from 1 to 10 times per hour, or turn them off completely.
- The Brave News feature is opt in, but if you enable it, Brave News ads will be on by default. At this time, Brave News ads cannot be disabled, and their frequency cannot be changed.
- Sponsored images in new tabs of the Brave Browser appear by default, but you can disable them (basically opt out of them) in browser Settings. To do so, you’ll Customize the new tab page, and toggle Show sponsored images. (You can find equivalent settings to disable sponsored images on iOS and Android in the browser Settings menu.)

A content creator is someone who creates their own content on other platforms, in some cases for subscribers but in others for a totally public audience. By “platforms” we mean sites like YouTube, Twitch, Instagram, and more.
A publisher is generally a company or organization publishing their own content on their own websites. Publishers are often news outlets like the New York Times or TechCrunch, but not always.
While both groups can benefit from Brave Rewards tipping, it’s especially useful for the community of creators. The Rewards feature allows Brave users to support content creators directly, using BAT.

Brave Rewards users can use accrued BAT to tip registered content creators. They can do this in two ways: via one-time tips, or as monthly auto-contributions. You can learn more on our tipping instructional page.
Registered creators can “redeem” the BAT they’ve received in much the same way they would cash or other crypto assets. Content creators can use our custodial wallet service partners to convert the BAT they earn into a currency of their choosing.

Brave Ads do not collect information about you. While Big Tech advertising relies on companies collecting information about you, and transferring that data to their servers, with Brave Rewards ad matching happens directly on your device. Your browsing activity never leaves your device.
Brave Rewards locally picks which private ads to show you based on your browsing activity. Then, Brave uses an anonymous accounting process to confirm ad event activity, keep personal details private, and ensure people earn rewards for their attention.
This means that while Brave Ads are shown based on your browsing activity, this matching is hidden to Brave: it only happens on your device, and no personal data reaches Brave’s servers. Neither Brave nor advertisers know who you are or what you’re viewing online.

Brave puts users first, and that means sharing any ad revenue we generate directly with users. A full 70% of the revenue Brave earns through these unobtrusive, privacy-preserving ads is shared directly back with users as Brave Rewards. Brave encourages users to share some of their earnings with website publishers and content creators, but there’s no requirement to do so.

Brave Rewards is tied to Brave Private Ads. Brave Browser users who opt-in to Brave Rewards will see privacy-preserving ads in certain locations as they browse. By viewing these ads, users can earn a crypto token called the Basic Attention Token (BAT).
Brave Wallet is a tool that allows you to buy, send, manage, and swap almost any crypto asset or NFT, connect other wallets and Web3 DApps, and generally manage your whole crypto portfolio. You can store BAT you’ve earned through Brave Rewards in the Brave Wallet, but otherwise the two features are not connected.
