I wish that a buyer could retract the positive feedback given to a seller when the seller has not given feedback to the buyer after 60 days. All I can do is add a comment to the feedback already given.

Some eBay members choose not to leave feedback or forget to leave Feedback, even when the transaction has been hassle-free. The seller may well leave feedback in bulk once a week or once a month. It's important to remember that Feedback is optional and not something members are currently required to leave on the site.



However, most members understand how important Feedback is for the eBay community. Although members aren't required to leave Feedback, you can email the member and ask them to leave Feedback for you, however, some may find such emails unwelcome.

I wish that a buyer could retract the positive feedback given to a seller when the seller has not given feedback to the buyer after 60 days. All I can do is add a comment to the feedback already given.




As above, the system is entirely voluntary. If youleave feedback comments unrelated to the purchase (you are not buying feedback remember) then you can be reported for feedback abuse.

I just wish there was some requirement for people to at least let you know they have received an item - it's a nuisance to keep having to check for 60 days before archiving a sold item. I also think that it would be helpful to have perhaps an indication of number of items sold - but where no feedback has been given - because surely no feedback must indicate that the person is happy with the item - or else why would they not say so?

Before I leave feedback for any seller - irrespective of how good the transaction has been - I always check to see whether they leave feedback or not in return. If they don't then I won't leave them feedback. If they can't be bothered to make the effort then why should I? As a seller I always tend to leave feedback immediately a buyer has paid. An exception to this would be if they have taken either a long time to pay or have needed a reminder to do so.


Feedback is an important aspect of eBay trading and should be left as a matter of courtesy and as a way of either thanking buyers for their custom or sellers for their service.


One thing I can't understand is why people keep their feedback private? Surely it defeats the whole object of leaving/giving it!

Is there a time limit on when a Buyer can give (or not give) a Seller feedback? For example, is it possible for a Buyer to give feedback on an item in over 3 months from buying the item?

It's important to remember that Feedback is optional and not something members are currently required to leave on the site.

I do agree but positive feedback is essential for sellers. If a seller has got +1000 positive feedbacks it doesn´t mean he shoudn´t be bothered anymore.I´m quite fed up with this kind of behavior as I pay immediately after the auction and some sellers ignore the feedback or wait till I send one!

I agree with Dazarina - it would be great if there was some way of letting the seller know that an item has been received. I believe that people should leave feedback as a matter of courtesy and good manners - even if the feedback is not positive! I chew my nails to the quick worrying that an item has not been received - which has happened on a couple of occasions- how nice it is if people take the time just to let you know that they have received the item - better still if they are pleased with their purchase. I bought several jewellery items from somebody who was a very good seller - but NEVER left any feedback! Shame on them! I can understand the feelings of people who would like to retract their positive feedback for sellers who simply can't be bothered to leave feedback for their buyers - but that would be sinking to their level!! If you are pleased with your purchase and the service received - leave positive feedback. It;s only fair!

I always pay immediately I have purchased an item so there is no reason why sellers shouldn't leave me positive feedback. I also leave feedback immediately I receive an item. I have had so many sellers who do not leave feedback that I have now decided that if sellers don't leave me feedback then I won't either. Surely ebay should be able to override lack of feedback when items have been paid for and positive feedback has been left by the buyer. If we all went along this route then we will end up with no feedback for anyone so it will become irrelevant - not a good thing.

Many sellers leave feedback upon completion of the transaction, which is normally deemed to be when the buyer is happy enough to leave feedback. In fact most of the medium/large sellers are set up for it to be left automatically.

Very recently I'd sent a "courtesy" email to a buyer asking to leave feedback and the person believe feedback should immediately be left for them if they paid promptly. I considered this person a good buyer for their fast payment but due to my past experiences, I am reluctant to leave one first, since I dealt with buyers who haven't bothered to leave feedback in return. Ialsowant to know if the buyer is happy with their purchase because the last thing I want to do is send positive feedback, and a day or two later get a negative; some buyers jump the gun without resolving any issues with the seller and the result of it is a decreasedratings and bad comment.

If I were your buyer, you'd receive a message stating the following:

- at first reminder, the one I just received, feedback will automatically be left on day 59

- at second reminder, you will get NO feedback

- at third reminder it will be neutral

- at fourth it will be negative.

All other sellers get it as soon as I receive the item and if unhappy rest assured I will do my best to sort things first and will think long and hard before you get anything but a positive.

It usually does the trick, someone has managed to get to a neutral though

A couple of really good answers there supporting us sellers.

Can I just say surely the ownership of the "first feedback left" doesn't belong with either party? BUT I still think the buyer should respond with feedback as a way of confirming that they got the item at least. In fact I've had lovely messages from my customers to let me know that they've received their purchase and they're really pleased with it and then went on to leave a message too.

Some customers leave feedback which is totally useless like "OK" "Thanks" "Received" which doesn't help any prospective buyer looking at your feedback to see how good a seller is. Personally when buying I take more notice of the content of the feedback of a seller that is left rather than the quantity. If everyone I'd ever sold to left me feedback I'd have at least another 25% feedback score and that has improved since I took the decision to wait for my customer to respond first! After all do you get feedback when you purchase anything from anywhere else on the internet? You normally get the option to leave a review but not normally do you get 'points scored' accessible by others.

As a buyer it is a far 'cushier' situation. I've seen some buyers with 100% feedback but the sellers have had to leave positive feedback with negative comments (such as non/late payer) just to let others to know about that customer. We haven't got time to troll everyone's feedback each time they bid or buy to check out any possible issues that may occur.

I recently received a message from a customer that had purchased something from me several weeks previously asking me to leave feedback for her as she has had trouble getting feedback out of sellers. She then went on to say that she would then leave me "positive" feedback only if I did so. This is tantamount to blackmail and a disgraceful way for a member who is also a seller too.

So we're now back to what millielilac so well put it:

"Feedback is VOLUNTARY for both parties.

All members should respect this ....regardless of their own personal opinions on the matter."

I usually leave a generic feedback unless the transaction has seen some special aspects, for good or for bad.

I do leave OK occasionally, and that's a bad sign, because in that case things didn't go badly enough for a non positive but it should SHOUT buyers beware, and I know I'm not the only one to use that technique
