Transfer a Domain to a New Wallet (2024)

Let’s say you bought a Web3 domain, but you no longer want or need to hang onto it. Unlike traditional domains, which have up to 30-day waiting periods, know that with us, you can easily transfer your domain within seconds. So how do you figure out if transferring is right for you?

When you transfer a domain to a new wallet make sure that the wallet is connected to a UD account in order to manage it, check how to connect a wallet here. Tell your friends to do the same if you transferred the domain to them!

1. Gifting to Family and Friends

We know that not everyone understands the true potential of Web3 (yet!). But for those of you who are one step ahead of the game, you might start thinking of securing Web3 Domains for your loved ones, which can then be easily transferred to them whenever you want.

2. Reselling Domains

If you ever feel it’s time to part ways with your Web3 Domains, you have the freedom to sell them on our website or on secondary markets like OpenSea or Rarible.

3. Selling to Private Parties

If you know someone who wants to buy your domain directly from you, then you can arrange the sale privately to transfer your domain, instead of going through secondary markets.

4. Changing Ownership for Business Reasons

Domains can be moved between people at your company if the need arises. This could happen if a business wants to maintain a domain that was originally registered by an employee under their personal account.

Make sure you're entering an ETH address of a non-custodial wallet, if the domain is transferred to an exchange account the possibility of regaining control of it is slim to none.

1. Go to My Domains
2. Select Manage next to your domain
3. Select the Transfer tab
4. Enter the ETH address to the wallet you'd like to transfer the domain and choose whether you would like to clear records
5. You will be prompted to sign a transaction in your wallet. Changes will be published to the blockchain, this can take up to 10 minutes

In the event that you can not access our website, you can transfer your domain from one wallet to another via OpenSea. Once you transfer the domain all records will be cleared.

Keep in mind that you cover the gas fees when transferring NFTs (and this includes Web3 Domains!) to other wallets on OpenSea. For domains on Ethereum, you will need to have ETH in the wallet to cover the gas fees on the Ethereum network. If your domain is claimed to Polygon, you will need MATIC on Polygon to cover the gas fees instead.

1. Login to your OpenSea account, then click on the circle in the top right-hand corner and click Profile
2. Scroll down and click the 3 small dots in the left-hand corner of the We domain you wish to transfer, then click Transfer
   
   
   
   
3. Enter the ETH addressof the recipient wallet then click Transfer
4. You will be prompted to sign a transaction in your wallet to which the domain is claimed. If the wallet does not pop up automatically, please make sure you have unlocked the wallet by clicking the extension and entering your password
   
   
5. Once the transaction is complete, OpenSea will notify you on-screen
