I received the following text today from 11112009, how can I confirm it’s actually from AT&T?

“Hi, it's AT&T. Great News! You've paid off your current phone. If you're interested in learning about our upgrade offer on the epic iPhone 13 Pro Max, reply YES to receive details.”

Texts from AT&T usually start with “AT&T free msg” or “AT&T msg” not “Hi it’s AT&T”.

Spam, sure. From ATT? Probably.

Scam texts don’t normally have you reply with “yes”, they either have a link or a phone number. I don’t think it’s a scam but do you really want more texts? You can see details of ATT’s phone deal for iPhones on att.com, no need to have them text the details if it is legitimate.

You can always see the details elsewhere but that doesn't prevent ATT from sending spam.

Thanks all. It looked fishy to me.

That is a scam. To verify paid-off status and upgrade options either log into your account or call AT&T.

Yeah but no. Look at the 1111300 responses. ATT is going to write, "Thank you for reaching out. You came to the right place. Rest assured, this is an AT&T approved message. These are typically sent to update you with news from us or when a change has been made to your account"

They're spamming.

Scam texts don’t normally have you reply with “yes”, they either have a link or a phone number. The originating number is also a short code which you can verify who it’s from. Scam texts normally originate from email addresses or 10 digit phone numbers, not short codes.I don’t think it’s a scam but do you really want more texts? You can see details of ATT’s phone deal for iPhones on att.com, no need to have them text the details if it is legitimate.

I totally hear you. And... I still think it's real. Gross and should never have happened, for sure, but real.

Anyway, hey, I reported it as spam (as per ATT's method):

- copy the text and text it to 7726 (on a normal phone that would be the letters for spam"

- they'll ask for the phone number it came from so give it to them!

@wmks6c2d37I would agree with you, it’s ATT spam, not fraudulent and not a scam. You’re supposed to be able to opt out of those, you might want to try that. I doubt reporting it to 7726 does any good.

Gotcha. Whether scam or just spam/legitimate message from carrier, I would still check options by verified methods (official website or publicly listed support number).

It’s a scam to get you to reply. Then they’ll send a dangerous link I’ll bet.

I got a similar text earlier today. Funny thing is my phones were bought through Verizon. I recently ported them to att so how would att know whether they were paid off or not?
