You need fair credit or better to get approved for a Target Credit Card. For the best odds of being approved, it's recommended that you only apply for a Target Credit Card if your credit score is 640 or higher and you have enough income to afford monthly bill payments.

When you apply for a Target Credit Card, your credit score is one of the major factors that the card’s issuer will consider. But it’s not the only factor. Your income, employment status, debts, and housing information matter, too. But your odds of approval are generally higher if you have a credit score above the 640 mark.

Here are the Target Credit Card requirements for approval:

  • Minimum credit score:640+ (at least fair credit)
  • Age requirement:18 years old
  • Income requirement:Enough to afford monthly payments (wages, investments, etc.)
  • Citizenship:Must be a U.S. citizen with a valid Social Security Number
  • Bank account requirement:Must have a checking account at a bank in the U.S.

You can apply for the Target Credit Cardonline or in person at a local Target store. You may be approved instantly if your doesn’t require application additional review. Otherwise, it can take 7-10 business days to receive a decision.

If approved, you will also be able to make purchases right away. You will receive a temporary credit card to use until your actual card arrives.

Here’s what you should know about the Target Credit Card:

The Target Credit Card gives you a 5% discount at Target and Target.com. You’ll also get 30 extra days for returns and free two-day shipping on Target.com orders. The card also offers a $0 annual fee.

I applied for the Target REDcard online and received an automated reply saying I would receive a reply in the mail within 7-10 business days. The next day I called customer service, who transferred me to the application department. She verified all the information on my application with me and processed it on the spot. She approved me immediately for a $1500 limit and when I asked, she told me they used my EQ report. My EQ: 776 TU:666 EX:690 FICO8: 662 Vantage3.0: 709
