SO many cute styles from so many bloggers came back to Stitch Fix.

I took the plunge so that you could know what you’re getting before you even consider it (oh no! make me try a service that sends me cute clothes in the mail?! 😉 ).

Stitch Fix gave me my first box for free, andyou can get yours totally free here too(yes, I mean 100% free!)But don’t worry, even though they gave it to me for free, I’m not going to hold back on how I feel about them and their product inside this Stitch Fix review! This is 100% authentic and has been updated since I started getting boxes since 2016.

What is Stitch Fix?

Stitch Fixis a subscription service company that sends you a box with 5 items in it each month that are hand-picked by a stylist just for you based on your coloring (hair, eyes, skin) and style preferences. The first one isfree when you sign up here, otherwise, you have to pay $20 for your box. Any items you like you can buy, and the others you can return!

How Does Stitch Fix Work?

Once you get theStitch Fixbox, you get to see the items that were picked for you. They can range from shirts, skirts, dresses, coats, vests, sweaters, jeans, jewelry, and more.

You can try them on and see what you like best. If you don’t like something, just add it to the prepaid shipping return bag and drop it off at the post office.

Who is Stitch Fix for?

When determining ifStitch Fixis worth it, I’ve got to be honest with you: this is NOT for everyone! I repeat: NOT for everyone.

Stitch Fix has great clothes that are cute, unique, comfy, and stylish…but they are expensive! Which means that there are really only 2 kinds of people who should even think about buying from Stitch Fix.

1. The Shop-a-holic.

Everyone has different spending triggers that give them comfort when they’re depressed or in crisis or are just bored or whatever else yours may be.

It might be that when things get tough, you run to the mall or shop online. You may find yourself spending $400 or more in one trip to the mall. Or often find yourself with a shopping cart FULL of stuff onAmazonorCents of Style.

That might be what you do in response to being stressed or depressed. If that is the case for you, the first answer to fixing the problem is to avoid malls and to disconnect your card information from websites where you shop. But the next thing you need to do is find a way to get the clothes that you love without the need to keep shopping.

That’s whereStitch Fixcan come in.You can’t overspend if you are only given 5 things in the first place. Plus, if you hate them, you can send them back.

It’s fun to get the box at the door and to open it. There’s a real rush in the experience, I know! The excitement of, “What am I going to get from Stitch Fix?” is enough to keep anyone coming back for more.

2. The Overwhelmed Mom.

This one is near and dear to my heart. Moms, a show of hands…Who else still has clothes that they wore in high school and college while their kids are in clean, new clothes that they grow out of every 3 months?

The mall can be a hot mess. Between parking and navigating through a crowd of people, it can turn into an instant headache. But you deserve to look good without the stress of going shopping with kids in tow! You’ll get everything you need to be the most stylish mom on the block.

An Honest Review of Stitch Fix on a Budget: The GOOD

The Clothing Selection

The clothes that I got were VERY cute. They really listened to my style and preferences when I told them what I liked and what I didn’t. It felt curated to my taste which I was initially worried about.

Better yet, my stylist was very quick about getting the clothes to my door. And right before Christmas, too!

It’s a lot of fun to open up that package like a kid on Christmas morning waiting to see what Santa brought. The anticipation was huge and I was ready to try it all out.

Quality Clothes

The clothes are high quality. Where you might think that the quality would suffer for a service like this, it doesn’t.Stitch Fixreally sends out great products that are soft, comfortable and very stylish.

If you’re like me, you might not try anything bold or new with your clothes because “if it ain’t broke…” But the stylist from Stitch Fix will likely pull something from outside of your comfort zone for you to try. And who knows! You might just love it.

Stitch Fix Returns

If you hate it all, just send it back. There’s no obligation to keep anything in the box. Plus, it’s free and easy to ship everything back.

This may have been my second favorite part of the whole experience. They send you a nifty little bag to return the items that you might not love.

For Stitch Fix returns, the shipping for the package is free to you and all you need to do is drop it off at the post office and you’re all set. Just make sure to drop it off during the 3-day window! If it takes you longer (kids get sick, life gets crazy, there are 6 feet of snow on the ground, etc.), all you have to do is send them an email and they’ll give you an extension.

An Honest Review of Stitch Fix on a Budget: The BAD

The Price.

THE PRICE. WOW. This is NOT for everyone, for sure! No one seems to talk a whole lot about this in their reviews so let me be the first to give you an honest review of Stitch Fix on a budget.

It is REALLY expensive. This is not for an “I think I want a new shirt, I’ll just get a Stitch Fix” kind of purchase. NO way! We’re talking t-shirts (albeit – cute t-shirts!) for $38 and up!

The price of Stitch Fix is a real drawback when deciding whether or not the service is worth it. There’s no getting around it. This is certainly not a pure budget-friendly service.

Without my special link for just for you, it costs $20 to get your box shipped to you. This fee is what they call a “styling fee” and they use it to pay for someone to pick out clothes for you by hand.

But, honestly, that’s the extent of the bad parts for me. The cost was the big one though, for sure!

The TRUTH of the review for Stitch Fix: Is Stitch Fix Worth It?

Just because everyone on the internet is raving aboutStitch Fix, that doesn’t mean that you need to go out and buy it, too! Yes, I think that Stitch Fix is fun and has a great selection of clothes. But NO, I don’t think that it’s a good fit for everyone!

In fact, I think it’s only a good fit for very few people, as follows:

  • If you have a shopping problem and need to ease yourself off of your addiction.
  • If you are looking to build a capsule wardrobe for the whole season and need a few pieces to tie it all together. But then don’t buy anything else for the rest of the season.
  • For moms who need clothes that are newer than 10 years old, or who can’t take the kids shopping, or who are finding it tough to find the time to look nice and could use some pampering (within reason).

So here’s the truth about Stitch Fix… Do I encourage you to give it a try?Sure!

It’s free with my special link(but you’d still have to pay to keep things that you like). Please don’t feel like you need to keep anything – if you hate it all, send it back! The Stitch Fix returns process is very easy. Just slap everything you DON’T Want to keep into the prepaid shipping package, and drop it off at the post office (or schedule a porch pickup because you keep forgetting to actually dropping it off… not like I know about that 😉 ). There’s nothing that you lose from trying it out.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stitch Fix

Is Stitch Fix High Quality?

I was impressed withStitch Fix’s quality. The more affordable pieces are still good quality and resemble what you might find at a department store. Of course, they also offer higher priced items if its in your budget and they are even better.

Where does stitch fix get their clothes?

Stitch Fixgets its clothes from a variety of sources, including well-known brands and up-and-coming designers. They work with over a thousand different labels, ensuring a diverse selection of clothing for their customers.

From the latest trends to timeless classics, Stitch Fix has something for everyone. They carefully curate their inventory to suit a range of personal styles and preferences. So, whether you’re looking for a statement piece or everyday essentials, Stitch Fix has got you covered.

And the best part? With their personalized styling service, you don’t have to spend hours scouring the mall for the perfect outfit. Just answer a few simple questions about your style and fit preferences, and Stitch Fix will take care of the rest. So sit back, relax, and let the fashion experts do the work for you!

How much is Stitch Fix?

To answer “how much doesStitch Fixcost” is kiiiiinda complicated. Technically, it’s “free,” but free in quotes for a reason.

The price of aStitch Fixbox depends on the number of items in the box. The “styling fee” is $20. But that gets deducted as a credit from what you decide to keep. So if you choose to keep a dress that’s $50, you will only have to “pay” $30 for it after the fee is paid for.

This price includes shipping and handling fees. And there’s a discount for keeping everything in the whole box (which, is worth mentioning) I’ve never once done.

So technically, how much is Stitch Fix? $20 per box even if you don’t keep anything. But if you hate everything in your box and were clear in your stylist notes before your order was shipped to you, I’ve always reached out to customer service and told them how much I hated the boxes and they’ve given me a free box that would ship shortly after I sent the other one back.

What is the average cost of Stitch Fix?

Clothing ranges from $25-$500 a piece for women and men. It’s quite the range! This is why it’s so important to set your budget and range when you sign up for Stitch Fix. Stylists will do their best to send you items within your budget. Personally, I always leave a note of “the less expensive the items, the more likely I am to keep them” in my stylist notes 🙂

If you decide to purchase everything in your box, you’ll receive an additional 25% off your entire purchase. So here’s hoping everything is a win!

Personal note on pricing of Stitch Fix clothes:

This is the HONEST part of this very honest review of Stitch Fix. I’ve found that the prices for almost everything from Stitch Fix is more than a little insane. Now, I’m frugal. I’m even toeing the line of being a cheapskate. But $35 for a pain shirt that I definitely have seen from Target for $15 full price… it’s a little insane.

Is Stitch Fix good for a person on a budget who wants new, in-style clothes? Probably not. I’d go to Target and spend $100 for full price clothes and walk out with more than I would get in a Stitch Fix box.

There have been times when, if I kept everything in my box, it would be $400. Again, this might not be a big deal for you for spending that kind of money on 4 shirts or dresses. But to me, that’s more than a little crazy.

So for Stitch Fix how much you spend depends on what you think is reasonable or unreasonable. I personally don’t find that the Stitch Fix cost of the articles of clothes and accessories are a good deal. They don’t position themselves as a “budget friendly” subscription box, but just be aware of the sticker shock when you get your box.

Tell me how Stitch fix chooses the clothes to send to each person.

Stitch Fix‘s process for choosing clothes for each person is a unique combination of art and science! It starts with a detailed style profile that you fill out when you sign up, which includes information about your personal style, fit preferences, and lifestyle.

Stitch Fix’s team of expert stylists uses this information, along with data from your previous shipments and feedback, to curate each shipment specifically for you. They also take into account current trends and your budget, ensuring that each shipment includes a mix of classic wardrobe staples and on-trend pieces.

Stitch Fix also gives you opportunities to take a regular style quiz where t’s like Tinder but for clothes. This style shuffle helps the stylists and the algorithm know what it is that you’re looking for inside this online personal styling service to make sure that you get items that you actually and wand will use.

Stitch Fix also uses advanced algorithms and machine learning to help their stylists make even more informed choices. This technology takes into account factors like color preferences, pattern preferences, and more, helping to ensure that each item in your shipment is something you’ll love and wear.

So whether you’re looking to try something new or stick to your tried-and-true favorites, Stitch Fix’s personalized styling service ensures that you’ll always receive clothes that are tailored specifically to your needs and taste.

Do I get to choose my Stitch Fix clothes in each box?

Recently, Stitch Fix sends a preview of your box with 10 or so items for you to choose from for your box. There have been times when I had trouble only choosing 5 items, and times when I tell them to send me another preview since I HATED everything in the preview. So keep an eye out for these emails to preview your fix before it ships!

Next, there are style quizzes that are kind of like Pinterest boards of style inspiration. These help you to share with the stylists and algorithm what your style is.

There are also quizzes that are like rapid-fire, Tinder-style images of 1 piece of clothing or an accessories that allow you to say whether or not you like a piece of clothing and then another, and another, etc.

You can also leave your stylist notes with each fix scheduled. They will email you before your fix is scheduled to see if you have any special requests or special occasions that you’d like clothes for specifically. This is the time where you can say things like “do NOT send me any jeans, skirts, shorts, pants, or seaters. I hate animal print but love pastel flowers. I need a floor length outdoor wedding attire for a spring wedding.”

Pro tip: If you are picky or don’t like certain articles of clothing or fabrics or even certain in-fashion styles, make sure that you share that with your stylist! Otherwise, you’ll be getting the most popular styles of clothes that might not be your style at all.

When does stitch fix charge you?

Stitch Fixcharges you for your styling fee as soon as you schedule your first Fix from your Stitch Fix stylist from their personal styling services. This fee is a flat rate of $20, and it’s applied to your account as soon as you confirm your order. But don’t worry, this fee is credited towards any items you decide to keep from your Fix.

As for the items themselves, Stitch Fix only charges you for what you decide to keep from your personal stylist picks from your general style quizzes and style profile from what you’ve said you liked or wanted inside of your subscription boxes. You have three days to try on your clothes and decide what you want to keep or return. Once you’ve made your selections at checkout and sent back the items that you dislike along with your feedback to your stylist, Stitch Fix will charge your credit card for the cost of the items you’re keeping.

And if you’re worried about being charged for items you’re not happy with, don’t be. Stitch Fix offers free returns and exchanges, so you can easily send back anything that doesn’t work for you. Just be sure to send back any unwanted items within the three-day window to avoid being charged.

Can you wear stitch fix and send them back?

Yes, you can wearStitch Fixclothing and send them back! In fact, that’s part of what makes Stitch Fix so great. They understand that sometimes things don’t fit quite right, or you change your mind about a certain piece of clothing.

Just keep in mind that if you decide to send back everything in your Fix, you’ll be charged the $20 styling fee. But if you decide to keep even just one item, that fee will be credited towards your purchase.

So go ahead, wear those Stitch Fix clothes with confidence! And if something doesn’t work out, just send it back and try again. With Stitch Fix’s personalized styling and hassle-free returns, you can keep your wardrobe fresh and stylish without ever leaving your house.

Is there a cheaper version of Stitch Fix?

Yes, there are alternatives to Stitch Fix that offer a similar personalized styling service at a potentially lower cost. (Note: I’ve only personally used ThredUp, and ThredUp just recently got rid of their Goody Box mystery program, so it’s still very different than the StitchFix mysetery boxes.)

Here are a few options:

  1. ThredUp: ThredUp is an online thrift store that offers a “Goody Box” service where you can receive a curated selection of secondhand clothing items based on your style preferences.
  2. Wantable: Wantable provides a personalized styling service for clothing, accessories, and fitness apparel. They offer options for various budgets and allow you to customize your preferences.

Can I buy Stitch Fix clothes without a subscription?

However, they do offer the option to purchase individual items from your Fix without signing up for recurring deliveries. So, you can still indulge in that perfectly tailored suit or questionable Hawaiian shirt without committing to a full-blown subscription. For the most accurate and up-to-date information on Stitch Fix stylist salaries, it’s best to refer to official job listings or contact the company directly.

One last note about Stitch Fix prices…

This is the brutal honesty portion of the post. There have been some items that I’ve kept from Stitch Fix that I felt are well worth what I was paying for them. And then… well, then there are the others. The pieces where the Stitch Fix prices are so staggeringly high and unbelievable for what is basically a T-shirt you could get from Taregt for $15 or less… those are the ones that make me question ever recommending Stitch Fix to anyone.

Listen, I get that Stitch Fix prices aren’t a deal breaker for anyone, but I’ve seen a $53 price tag on a shirt that I swear could have been an Amazon branded t-shirt or even one from Shein. Now, you might not even bat an eye at that kind of pricing! However… that’s not for me. I’d rather just head over to ThredUp and buy a whole season’s wardrobe for that same price as 5 items with the Stitch Fix prices.

But that’s just me. I’m a big “try it, and if you hate it, you can send it back and ask for a better box” kind of person. 🙂
