Pokemon Go released Ditto, the Transform Pokemon in November 2016. Ditto disguises itself as other Pokemon, more commonly as ones that are shown to frequent on a monthly basis.

Ditto will often change its rotation of the Pokemon it decides to transform as. The Pokemon species Ditto has decided to transform into (in the order of their Generation) for January 2023 are:

Ditto only has a 3% encounter rate.
How to Catch Ditto
There will be a Swirlix Spotlight on January 10, 2023 from 6 PM to 7 PM (Local Time). This increased amount of Swirlix encounters will also increase your chances of encountering a Ditto disguised as Swirlix.
Once the concealed Ditto has been caught, an "Oh?" will appear above the Pokeball in a cutscene. The Pokemon will change forms. You will find that it was actually Ditto that was caught and not the other Pokemon initially encountered.
For example, if you are having a tougher time catching a low CP Pokemon, there is a good chance it is actually a Ditto in disguise.
There are zero indicators a certain Pokemon is a Ditto through the map or at the start of an encounter.
After catching a Pokemon, it will then emerge to show its true form.

Ditto itself is not a Pokemon used in PvE or PvP.
Ditto's max CP reaches less than 1000, so we recommend not wasting precious Stardust on training Ditto!
How to Catch Shiny Ditto
If you are extremely lucky, you might not only encounter a Ditto in disguise, but a Shiny Ditto!
A Shiny Ditto will appear blue instead of purple. Shiny Ditto will diguise itself as all the same Pokemon as the regular Ditto. However, a Shiny Ditto will never diguise itself as another Shiny Pokemon. Only normal Ekans, Gastly, Spinarak, Natu, Surskit, Numel, Bidoof, Finneon, Dwebble, Lillipup, and Swirlix have chance of being a Shiny Ditto in disguise.
