A mint mark is a letter or other symbol that identifies the mint at which a given coin was made. On most U.S. coins, the mint mark will be a D (for the Denver or Dahlonega mint), an S (for San Francisco), P was used (for Philadelphia), CC (for Carson City.) or a W (for West Point).

DMPL (pronounced "dimple") is an abbreviation that stands for Deep Mirror Proof-Like. This term is usually reserved for describing Morgan Dollars that were struck for circulation but had unusually clean mirror-like fields and frosted devices that are very similar to a Proof coin.

Both DCAM and UCAM designate coins with strong frosted devices against clear, mirrored fields, and the terms can be used interchangeably. UCAM (“Ultra Cameo”) is used by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), and DCAM (“Deep Cameo”) is used by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS).

The initials of Stuart Devlin (SD) can be found beneath the lizard on all pieces except for a number of 'Sans SD' pieces issued in 1967, 1968, and 1981 (an example is shown below).

1972 D Lincoln penny Value

The reason is that the 1943 copper penny is an error coin. The United States Mint accidentally used the wrong planchet metal when striking the coin. But very, very few of these left the U.S. Mint facilities.
