Obsidian is the hardest material in Minecraft. It can be collected only with a DIAMOND PICKAXE.Sadly it takes roughly 10 seconds to mine out. Any other pickaxe will simply break the block after about a minute of mining.
Obsidian is created when a source Lava block comes in contact with a flowing Water block. If the water comes in contact with a flowing lava block then Cobblestone is created. Although Obsidian is not naturally created in the map of Minecraft, if a Lava and Water spring are in close enough proximity, obsidian will form without player interaction.
