Swimming in cold water while additional cold water falls onto your head can cause hypothermia, and high wind can cause you to lose even more body heat. What’s more, you may not even notice that you’re chilled, because you expect some chilliness after jumping into a pool. This can prevent you from seeking medical attention as quickly as you should.
So, maybe you can’t swim when it’s raining, but how about after a storm? After all, if your pool party is interrupted, you may want to jump back in as soon as you possibly can. Before you do, clean out any debris and check the balance of chemicals in the water. If it’s not too far from the recommended levels, it’s probably safe to swim. Otherwise, you might want to wait a day or two and get it back into shape before allowing anyone into the pool.
