Kiosk Mode | SmartPass Help Articles & Videos (2024)

Kiosk Mode allows schools to use SmartPass without having students use individually-issued devices every time they need to create a pass.

By placing a Chromebook, iPad, or any web-enabled device in a corner of the room, students can use the kiosk to select their destination and maintain a digital history of when they left the classroom. Teachers are still able to issue Passes to students and hall monitors can verify that students in the hall are traveling with a pass.

Important Notes:

A teacher must be added to a room to allow them to start kiosk mode.

Room restrictions behave different on kiosks than 1 to 1 devices. If restrictions are enabled for a destination, a kiosk created pass will send these approvals back to the origin room teacher only, regardless of the settings configured by admin. It is suggested for those rooms that require another person's approve that it be done on a 1 to 1 device.

  1. First, make sure your Teacher account has a room assigned to it and that you can see the "Home" Tab. If you do not have this tab, it means there is no room assigned to you and you need to contact your school administrator.

  2. If you have multiple rooms assigned to your account, click on the "Currently In" drop-down and select the Room that the kiosk is going to be placed in. In the example below, the kiosk will be placed in the main office.

You can also enter Kiosk Mode using a dedicated username and password. When entering Kiosk mode from your teacher account, you will find the Dedicated Login information that you can enter on the device where you would like to set up the kiosk.

You simply need to copy those details, go to www.smartpass.app/app on the device, and enter the dedicated login.

You can also reset the password by clicking the Refresh icon in the password text field.

Top Tip: Teachers should record this username/password in their sub plans!

For admins: If you need a list of all the dedicated logins for all the rooms in case you need to set up the kiosks, please contact us at [emailprotected].

Once you've entered Kiosk Mode, or logged in using the Dedicated Login for the kiosk, you will be prompted with three options that you can choose based on how you prefer to set up the kiosk:

  • Type in the name - allows students to search for their own name to create a pass.

  • Type in the email - allows students to search for their own email address to create a pass.

  • Type in ID number - allows students to search for their name using their ID number and create a pass. Here's how to set up ID numbers.

  • ID Scanning - allows students to scan their ID to create a pass. Students can also end an active pass by scanning their ID. Here's how to set up ID numbers.

Ideally students will ask permission the same way as with any other pass. Once they have permission they can walk up to the device, and create a pass.

Based on your options selected they begin by typing their name, ID or scanning, then they select their destination, and adjust the time/pass options and hit Start Pass. When they return to the room they hit End Pass.

With kiosks there is no need to accept or search an origin room, as the kiosk is specific to that room, so that piece is prefilled for students.

All active passes to and from a room will show on a kiosk, so if you have a kiosk in your room and a student was issued a pass to you, it would show up. That student would then enter the room and hit end pass on your kiosk.

Kiosks also work with wait in line, students will receive the alert on the kiosk and a 30 second timer to go accept their pass.

Once Kiosk Mode is entered, a Teacher will need to open the settings by clicking the gear icon at the top right and clicking "Exit Kiosk Mode & Sign out." This will require the teacher to sign back in again. Once signed back in, SmartPass will return to the normal Teacher view.
