Individual Values (or IVs) are a hidden set of stats that are randomly applied to each Pokemon upon receiving or capturing them. They are part of what makes each Pokemon unique from another. These stats cannot normally be seen, but they can be calculated by using special calculators around the net or unlocking a function in the game once you complete the story.Individual Values

Individual Values will determine how high or low a particular base stat can possibly be. The value will be somewhere between 0 and 31 -- 0 being the worst and 31 being the best. For example, if a Pokemon's Speed IV is 31, that means its Speed can reach the maximum a Pokemon of that species can accomplish as long as its Effort Values are properly allotted.

How to Check Your Pokemon's IVs

Pokemon Sun and Moon has drastically streamlined the way you check your Pokemon's IVs, at least once you've beaten the game.

Here are what the different terms mean:

• No Good: zero
• Decent: 1- 10
• Pretty Good: 11 - 20
• Very Good: 21 - 29
• Fantastic: 30
• Best: 31

Hidden Power

The Type for the attack Hidden Power is calculated entirely on the Individual Values of your Pokemon. Hidden Power is a special move that can use one of the eighteen different types of a Pokemon (e.g. Grass, Electric, Dragon, etc).

The NPC that will tell you which Hidden Power your Pokemon will have is conveniently located in the Nursery in Paniola Town.

SOS Battles for Better IVs

If you defeat 40 Pokemon in a single SOS Battle, Pokemon that appear afterward in the same battle will then have a guaranteed four perfect IVs. This is a great place to start for Breeding! See SOS Battles for more detailed information.

Pokemon that can only be captured once, like Legendary Pokemon, are guaranteed to have three perfect IVs.

Breed For Better IVs

If you have a Pokemon with a good set of IVs in a particular stat, you can pass down those IVs when Breeding. All you need to do is give a special item to the parent of the Pokemon. This will pass down one specific or five random IVs to the child.

• Power Weight - HP IVs
• Power Bracer - Attack IVs
• Power Belt - Defense IVs
• Power Lens - Special Attack IVs
• Power Band - Special Defense IVs
• Power Anklet - Speed IVs
• Destiny Knot - 5 Random IVs from both parents

However, if you give two different power items to both parents, the IV will be chosen at random for the offspring.

Hyper Training

With Bottle Caps you can purchase Hyper Training for a Lv. 100 Pokemon that superficially increases its stats to reflect what they would be as if its IVs were 31. In other words, if you Hyper Train a Pokemon's Speed, it will then rise to match what it would be as if its IV were 31. However, the actual IV number will not change, so it cannot be passed down in breeding and its Hidden Power will remain unchanged.

Pokemon Characteristics

Characteristics shown at each Pokemon's summary screen usually shows the best IV out of all their stats. However, it doesn't tell you exactly how good their best stat is. It's possible their best stat only lands a 9 in the 0-31 IV Scale! Each characteristic will be under a certain IV. For example "Proud of its Power" is for the Attack stat and "Loves to Eat" is for the HP Stat.

Attack Characteristics

• Proud of its power
• Likes to thrash about
• A little quick tempered
• Likes to fight
• Quick tempered

Defense Characteristics

• Sturdy body
• Capable of taking hits
• Highly persistent
• Good endurance
• Good perseverance

Special Attack Characteristics

• Highly curious
• Mischievous
• Thoroughly cunning
• Often lost in thought
• Very finicky

Special Defense Characteristics

• Strong willed
• Somewhat vain
• Strongly Defiant
• Hates to lose
• Somewhat stubborn

Speed Characteristics

• Likes to run
• Alert to sounds
• Impetuous and silly
• Somewhat of a clown
• Quick to flee
