If you contact Apple, you might be asked to confirm your Apple ID using one of these options: Receive and confirm an Apple ID notification sent directly to your device. Generate a temporary Support PIN on your device.

To protect your account, you might be asked to verify your identity when using Apple Cash or applying for Apple Card.

Apple will never ask you for this information. Apple has strict policies and procedures in place to prevent unauthorized access to your Apple ID. When you contact us for support, we may ask you to confirm your Apple ID via a notification that we send to your device.

On your iPhone go to Settings > [your name] > Sign-In & Security. Tap Turn On Two-Factor Authentication, then tap Continue. Enter a trusted phone number (the number you'll use to receive verification codes), then tap Next. A verification code is sent to your trusted phone number.

If you're running iOS 16 or later, see How Safety Check on iPhone works to keep you safe. Check which devices are signed in to your account by going to Settings > [your name]. If you see a device you don't recognize, tap on that device name and select “Remove from Account.”

But when you can't verify your Apple ID on a new device, it's a hassle. For instance, you can't access your iCloud, where you probably store most of your photos, notes, and other personal files. You also can't download new apps or make purchases on the apps you've already downloaded.

Never give your Apple ID password, device passcode, or account security details to anyone else. Neither Apple nor Apple Authorized Service Providers will ask for this information.

If you receive a pop-up notification on your Mac saying it's been compromised or hacked, then it's a fake Apple security alert. First, don't call any numbers or click on any links associated with the fake pop-ups.

Check the sender's email address.

Official Apple email addresses end in “@email.apple.com.” Anything else is a scam. In this example, the email is from “@applestorepayment.com” — designed to trick you.

You can also go to the Apple ID account website to help you find your Apple ID. Go to the Apple ID account website, click Sign In, click “Forgot Apple ID or password?” then follow the onscreen instructions.

To chat with the Apple customer support team, go to getsupport.apple.com. Then choose which Apple product or service you need help with and what issue you're experiencing. Finally, select Chat and sign in with your Apple ID or enter your product's serial number.

Change or Update Apple ID Payment. If you change your address, the credit or debit card information that you use with your Apple ID might be automatically updated by your financial institution. To avoid Verification Required on App Store, you can add a new card first, then remove the old card.

A: If you receive an authentication code but did not request one, there is a chance your account password has been compromised – but don't worry, whomever is attempting to access your account cannot get the code sent to you. We would recommend immediately changing your affected account password.
