Getting your baby room and your room ready for your new little one is only half the task to make it easier on yourself once your baby is born. Nesting can take hold of any pregnant mom ready to have her home ready for after labor.

As I am nearing the end of my pregnancy, I have been getting ready and adding to my stockpile of things I like to have for after the baby is born. (I can’t believe that it is only 5 more days until my due date! Definitely making sure everything is ready)

Here are a couple of favorite ways to get my home ready for a baby.

For The House

Snacks – Making mommy, daddy, and smaller kid’s snacks before the baby is born can really be helpful especially if you plan on nursing. Snacks in bags for your smaller kids can hold them over until you are done nursing and ready to get them a meal. Snacks for you can help make sure you get healthy foods in between your meals and to keep your energy up.

Disposable Dishes – Dishes can end up being somewhat neglected while you rest and before you get into a routine at home. Disposable dishes are a lifesaver for helping out just a bit until things start slowing down and getting back to normal. I usually buy a large pack of plates, bowls, forks, and spoons to get us through for a little while.

Mattress Protector – To protect your mattress from stains whether it be from bleeding or breast milk, a mattress protector is a good investment to keep your mattress looking new and staying clean.

Toilet bowl cleaner tablets – Extra cleaning is the last thing you really want to do. By using toilet bowl cleaners to help you out a bit, it can cut down on cleaning time and give you more time snuggling with your new little one.

Robotic Vacuum – I have not personally bought one, but I can definitely see that a robotic vacuum could really help any new mommy after their baby is born.

Freezer meals– I think freezer meals are such a life saver the first month or so. Having at least two weeks of dinners and lunches planned is so helpful. I love making healthy protein packed freezer meals, snacks, and soup for better milk production and overall energy.

Here is a great list of books with all your favorite meals and how to freeze them:

For You

Pads – First thing a new mommy surely needs are pads and a lot of them. Everyone’s different and bleeding can be more or less from one pregnancy to the next and from one mom to another. I always try to have a variety of sizes for heavier bleeding to not as heavy.

Flush-able Wipes – You can be extremely sensitive down there after your baby is born. Flush-able wipes keep you clean and are a lot more comfortable to wipe with than toilet paper, especially following delivery.

Toilet Paper – With using the bathroom more frequently, it means more toilet paper being used. Stocking up on toilet paper is a must. Once you are healed up enough to start using regular toilet paper again, it can definitely be handy to have extra on hand since you need to go to the restroom quite regularly still

Bed sheets – Even with the best feminine pads and nursing pads, there may be the occasional leak. Make sure you have a couple extra bed sheets, that are easy to get to.

Nursing Pads – There are both disposable and reusable nursing pads. I have used both and it all depends on preference. (My favorite reusable pads are the bamboo nursing pads)

I like having about 1 box of disposable pads and at least 8 reusable pads.

Loose and Comfortable Clothes– Postpartum is a time that you want to fit right back into your prepregnancy clothes right away but that is not always the case. Finding comfortable clothes during the postpartum period is a must. If you are nursing, try to find loose flowing shirts or shirts specifically designed for nursing.

There are a couple more things that I would recommend for your postpartum care. Here is the complete list.

For The Baby

Diapers – We can’t forget those right? I like buying 1 large box of newborn and 2 large boxes of size 1 to get me started. It’s always hard to tell how many diapers of each size you will need. It all depends on how fast your baby grows and how often you change their diaper. So, one box of each works out great and then I can order more once I see how fast I am going through diapers and how fast my baby is growing.

If you plan on using reusable diapers, make sure you have around 15 to 24 diapers of different sizes.

Baby Wipes – You can never have too many baby wipes. I like to stock 2 large boxes of wipes before my little one is born.

Baby Clothes – One of the fun parts of getting ready for your new baby, is getting their clothes ready for them! Newborn clothes are so tiny and cute it is just took hard to not get excited when folding them and imagining they will be in them soon and that they can even fit in them! ?

Baby sheets – I like having at least 4 baby sheets. You never know if your baby may spit-up or have a diaper leak and having extras on hand is always a plus.

Swaddle Blankets – I have always loved swaddling my babies. So, swaddle blankets or swaddle wraps are a must on my stocking up list. I like to have at least 4.

For Your Toddler or Young Child

Clothes for your kids – If you have more children, looking ahead and seeing if they need new sizes of clothes before the baby is born, can be really helpful. Clothes shopping with a newborn can be somewhat stressful depending on the ages of your other children. If you have older children it makes it easier but if you have a younger child or children it may be best to shop now in store and wait till your baby is a bit older to go clothes shopping. Shopping online is always helpful with that too if you end up needing something for your little one and you are not wanting to go out.

ActivitiesI always try to find quiet activities for my little ones when there is a new baby. Here is a short list of a couple of activities that you may want to stock up on if you have other little ones in your house.

It is always important to let your toddlers or your children to know that you care for them. Having a new baby can take some of the time you had spent on them. Here is a post on Making Time For Your Toddler After Your New Baby Is Born

For The Daddy

We can’t forget about our better half! 🙂 I like to make sure that my husband has a lot of his favorite snacks, freezer foods and household items stocked up on. He helps a lot too, so I like to make sure he knows he is thought of and make sure to have things ready for him too.
