At this point, have you ever considered selling your work?If you're interested in making money using your Cricut machine, you're in luck! I'm here to do my best to answer your questions and to share some advice to help you be successful.

Find Your "Why"

There are a lot of reasons to want to make money with your Cricut. The most important thing to think about before getting started is your "why", and will it be worth it?

  • It's a great way to justify the amount invested in a Cricut machine.
  • It's always nice to make some extra income!
  • Maybe you see something in the store or online and think, "I can make that!"
  • Maybe you absolutely love creating with your machine and want to do it full-time!
  • SO many more reasons!!

Once you have decided WHY you want to get started, there are some important factors to think about before starting your new business.

Copyright + Licensing

Disclaimer: I’m not an intellectual property lawyer, so this is NOT actual legal advice.

Copyright infringement is one of the biggest mistakes people make, and will ultimately cost you HUGE in the long run. There arethree optionsI would recommend to keep your business from getting into trouble:

1. Sign up for Cricut Access: With Cricut Access, you have unlimited use of over 100,000 images and 500+ fonts available in the design library. Before selling items made with Cricut Access images and fonts, I would recommend reading through the Cricut Angel Policy carefully. A few important things to note:

  • Most Cricut Access images are included
  • Sell up to 10,000 items using Cricut images
  • Do NOT sell the individual images
  • Include a copyright notice with your projects
  • You CANNOT sell items with licensed content (Disney, Marvel, Hello Kitty, etc).

2. Purchase Commercial Use Cut Files: Before using a cut file for an item you want to sell, be sure to check that the license is for commercial use (as opposed to personal use) and read through the commercial use license to see what is covered. Many designers have images available as personal use licenses, but offer a commercial use license for an additional fee. Check out my collection of commercial use cut files!

3. Create Your Own Cut Files: There are so many ways to create your own cut file images, and it's actually a lot of fun! I personally use my iPad, Procreate (app), and my Apple Pencil to create a lot of images, but also use programs on my computer. Since you are able to upload multiple file types into Cricut Design Space (svg, jpg, png, dxf), you can use a few different programs to design cut files (i.e., PicMonkey, Inkscape, and Canva).

What's Your Specialty?

How to Make Money with a Cricut Machine (3)

I'm the kind of crafter that likes to dabble ineverything. However, if you are wanting to run a business, it's a good idea to narrow down the types of items you want to sell to maybe one or two items to start with. Take some time to find what youLIKEto create, and if it is something that will bring you a profit. Figure in costs of supplies, shipping costs, and how much time you need to put into it.

Do what you do, and do it well. Once you've made a decision, practice your craft until you have a consistent, high quality product. Bonus points if you can come up with a way to add your own creative touch to the project to make it unique and stand out from the crowd!
