How to Add Ethereum Test Networks on Metamask (2024)

How to Add Ethereum Test Networks on Metamask (2)

If you’re like me who forgot how to turn on ETH test networks on Metamask again, just follow this 30-sec video below.

Here are the instructions in text mode. The test networks are already there on Metamask, just that they are hidden by default. You just need to go to Settings -> Advanced and turn on the “Show test networks” switch. That’s it!

I recently moved to Brave browser and apparently forgot how to do this trick again. So, hope this helps to save your time.

If you ask me, Ropsten is a much better testnet than the Kovan or Rinkeby because it’s easier to get test ETH tokens compared to the others. And it seems to be faster too. And it has a few other faucets like this.

Kovan faucet wants you to sign-in although Chainlink’s Kovan faucet is pretty quick but you only get 0.1 ETH each time (same goes to their Rinkeby faucet). And the official Rinkeby faucet is still down (almost one month already!)

But Chainlink seems to favor Kovan while MetisDAO is a fan of Rinkeby.
