How do I contact eBay's fraud department? (2024)

I've had fraudulent activity on my account but eBay chat is not helpful at all and I have not found a way to get in contact with a fraud department nor speak to a human being via telephone regarding this.

The first hat agent,Cherry Lou, ended the chat while supposedly looking into my issue. I provided them all of the order numbers (four total from two sellers with suspicious feedback) as well as the information about the sellers but they responded:

"I understand. Please bear with me. Let me connect us now." Then followed that with "Thank you for using eBay live chat. I will close our chat now." Despite my asking them NOT to close the chat.

The second agent,Ma. Therese, kept copy/pasting the same messages and not answering my questions. I provided the order numbers and they said they flagged them. I then told them that I was trying to contact the sellers but I was unable to (getting an error on the eBay website). They did not respond. I then asked for a telephone number which I could use to contact eBay and speak with someone. Again, no response. They ignored my questions and my chat was then picked up by ANOTHER agent.

The third agent,Kristine, provided me with a telephone number which did not work (1-866-540-3229) as the message that plays when you connect says that this number is "no longer in use" by eBay. The number gives no option to transfer to the new number nor provides it; it will just hang up on you. Why are eBay agents providing numbers which do not work?

eBay's fraud number (which I found via Google),1-866-961-9253, asks for a 7-digit one-time number. If you say you do not have one (I have no idea how to get one as the intructions I found while searching do not provide me with any way to get a number), it will look up your account via zip code and then transfer you to1-866-540-3229, which again, is no longer is use by eBay.

eBay's chat is useless and the phone number provided by their agents is old and is no longer in use. How in the world do you speak to someone when your account is hacked/fraudulent purchases are made? I've tried to provide the chat agents with information, including the strange circ*mstances of this fraud: 4 items from 2 accounts, the fact that I got an eBay notification that a sign-in was made in Saginaw, Michigan (I do not live anywhere near Michigan and never have nor do I use a VPN). But they are ZERO help. My bank, thankfully, got right on this, have opened an investigation and given me a time frame for resolution. However, I'd still like to speak with someone at eBayin order to attempt a stop to the payment processing as well as cancelling the orders and taking the appropriate measures to address the hacking/fraud.
