Getting access to a hard drive encrypted with Bitlocker (2024)

Getting access to a hard drive encrypted with Bitlocker (1)Most internet sites will tell you that it’s not possible to get access to the data on a hard drive that is encrypted with Bitlocker, but this is not true. In December 2021 we developed a process that allows us to hack the security of Bitlocker encrypted hard drives and get access to the decrypted data. There are two ways to get into a hard drive encrypted with Bitlocker. Either through the password or the recovery key.

The BitLocker password is what you entered to encrypt the drive when you turn on Bitlocker Drive Encryption on that drive. It needs to be a minimum of 8 characters and probably looks something like this: ‘Pas5word‘ or this ‘Much-m0re*Secure‘.

The BitLocker recovery key is a special key that is created when you turn on Bitlocker Drive Encryption for the first time on each drive that you encrypt. It’s a sequence of 8 six digit numbers and looks something like this: ‘928344-103944-84733-00988-32312-51265-009833-29846‘.

If you’ve got a hard drive protected by Bitlocker please contact us and we should be able to help. Go to Data Clinic’s main Bitlocker page.
