We’re thrilled to announce that Fireblocks, the digital asset custody, transfer, and settlement platform, has integrated WalletConnect v2.0 to offer its institutional clients access to the Solana blockchain’s ecosystem of decentralized applications for the very first time.

As one of the largest players in the crypto custody infrastructure space, Fireblocks serves over 1,300 institutions with its software and APIs. With its integration of WalletConnect v2.0, Fireblocks is moving beyond EVM-compatible chains to include non-EVM chains in its service offering, starting with Solana.

This is made possible by the enhanced version of our remote signer API, WalletConnect Sign. We developed the WalletConnect Sign API to enable wallets and apps to securely interact through an end-to-end encrypted connection, to realize interoperability within the flourishing web3 space. With v2.0 of the protocol, we have expanded interoperability to include non-EVM chains, providing support for multi-chain features such as simultaneous transaction signing.

Underpinning this is the incredible work achieved by the Chain Agnostic Improvement Proposals (CAIPs) to realize interoperability between blockchains and roll-ups through developer- and transaction-friendly blockchain and account identifiers. These are integral components that enable us to keep our protocol agnostic and power connections between web3’s growing number of blockchains, each of which are designed to serve distinctive use cases.

To help our partners offer their users the best experience possible, we are also continuously enhancing the WalletConnect communications protocol. We are working on implementing domain binding to protect against phishing attacks, adding post-transaction push notifications to offer richer UX, and expanding our data centers to further regions, which will improve latency by a whopping ~200ms for the average user.

Our mission is to not only allow end users to explore the chain of their choice but to do so with ever-improving security and speed. We’re thrilled to work with partners such as Fireblocks to make this a reality.
