Ethereum Classic DAG File Size
There is a special DAG file that is loaded into the GPU memory to mine on the Etchash algorithm. The memory of different GPUs is not combined: DAG must be loaded into the memory of each separate GPU. DAG is constantly increasing in size.
As of now, DAG size in Ethereum Classic is 3.569 GB, so only GPUs with over 4 GB of RAM can mine ETC. GPUs that have less than 4 GB of RAM can’t mine ETC.
- GPUs with 4 GB of RAM will stop mining ETC on September 14, 2025.
- GPUs with 6 GB of RAM will stop mining ETC on March 07, 2032.
Please note that this estimate is accurate mostly for mining on Linux. Windows uses more GPU memory for interface design leaving less space for DAG. And so GPUs on Windows will stop mining ETC a little earlier.
What are the hardware requirements for ETC mining?
Both GPU and ASIC device mining is available and effective. NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards could be used to mine Ethereum Classic At least 4 GB of GPU memory is required. There are Uncle blocks in the Ethereum Classic network. 2CryptoCalc mining calculation takes into account Uncle-blocks and transaction fees which are included into blocks. Hashpower rental is not available.
What is the difference between Pool and Solo ETC mining?
While you mine in the POOL you work together with other miners. In SOLO mode you are alone. If you find 0 blocks your reward is 0. We could recommend Ethereum Classic SOLO mining only of experienced users and only if you could find at least 2-3 blocks in 24 hours. If in doubt always mine in the POOL.

What is the optimal ETC SOLO mining strategy?
Professional miners track the Ethereum Classic network difficulty all the time and in certain moments join the mining using their own mining rigs or Nicehash rented hashpower. Mining success doesn’t only depend on pool servers operation and luck value. Accurate calculation could always be a key.
