PIP Rates For 2023/2024

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) comprises two components:

  • Daily living - If you need help with day-to-day tasks
  • Mobility - If you require assistance with getting around

Each of these components has a standard and enhanced rate, depending on how great your needs are.

When claiming PIP, you’ll be assessed by a medical professional to determine how much help you require and which rate(s) you qualify for. You could be eligible for both or just one of the components.

PIP rates increased by 10.1% for 2023/2024, in line with inflation. The 2023/2024 daily living component of PIP is worth £101.75 for the enhanced rate and £68.10 for the standard rate. The mobility component is worth £71.00 for the enhanced rate and £26.90 for the standard rate.

Who Is Eligible For PIP?

To be eligible for Personal Independence Payment (PIP), you’ll need to be aged over 16 but under the State Pension age.

You also need to have a medical condition or disability which makes day-to-day life and/or getting around tougher. You must have experienced these difficulties for at least three months and expect them to continue for at least another nine months (unless you’re terminally ill with six months or fewer to live).

Often, people who require assistance with daily living also need personal care, including help with preparing meals, personal hygiene, getting dressed and undressed, medication management and communication.

We have a guide explaining all the medical conditions that could make you eligible for PIP.

PIP is for people living in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. If you live in Scotland, you should instead apply for Adult Disability Payment.

How To Apply For PIP

You can make a new PIP claim by calling the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) on 0800 917 2222. You can have somebody else call on your behalf, provided you’re present during the call.

Next, you’ll be sent a form to fill in. Once this form has been sent off, you’ll be invited for an assessment (this could be in person or online). Your health or social care worker may also be asked for any additional information.

From this assessment, you’ll be assigned a score, according to your ability to perform certain tasks. This score will determine whether you qualify and how much money you should be awarded through PIP. You’ll be given this score in a letter informing you of whether your claim has been successful.

The Benefit Cap

The Benefit Cap refers to the total amount of benefits you can receive if you’re of working age. Just like disability benefits, this cap rose in line with inflation by 10.1% in April 2023.
