Dreams Players Who Use Move Controllers Might Want One of Those PS5 Camera Adaptors (2024)

But can you get one without PSVR?

Here's an interesting issue. In case you didn't know, Dreams supports PlayStation Move controllers in addition to the DualShock 4. The wands work in tandem with the PS Camera to give a sense of depth, and in this game's case, allow for easier manipulation of 3D objects when creating something. This camera is also key to how PlayStation VR works. Sony has stated that the current camera won't work with PS5, and urges all PSVR owners to apply for a free adaptor. Part of this process involves inputting a serial number from your PSVR unit. That's all good and well, but a small percentage of people aren't answered for. What if you play and make things in Dreams using the Move controllers, but don't own PSVR? How would you continue creating on PS5?

Fortunately, Media Molecule has answered this very specific question. In a tweet, the developer says that people in this situation should contact their local PlayStation Support team, who will put in a request for a PS5 camera adaptor.

So, yes, it seems that you can acquire a camera adaptor for PS5 even if you don't own PSVR. This means Dreams players will be able to continue using Move controllers with the game on PS5 via backwards compatibility. The number of people this affects will be relatively tiny, but it's good that there appears to be a solution in place.

Do you create in Dreams using PS Moves? Have you been wondering about this scenario? Create and share in the comments section below.

Frankly the lack of dedicated camera port on the PS5 is a bit short sighted of Sony here.
At least there is an option for people.

I do use moves for Dreams, but hadn’t thought about it as I was more concerned about acquiring the adapter for my PSVR.

Such a strange problem to have.

Have Sony actually said why the new camera isn’t compatible with the PSVR and Moves yet?

@NathanUC im presuming they will make an update to allow support for the new camera at some point, but if you've got a psvr and wanted to use it on ps5 maybe they didn't want to alienate them by forcing them to shell out 60 quid for a new camera when a free adapter is the cheaper option for the consumer, imagine the bad press, "psvr useless on ps5 without new 60 pound camera"

@vapidwolf I don't see that happening. They are spending A LOT of money on these free adapters in shipping alone. This method is costing them millions of dollars. If it were as simple as a software update, they would have done it already. There is no way it was cheaper to send out hundreds of thousands of free dongles than it was to pay a group of engineers to make this work at a software level.

The article, penned by Stephen Tailby on October 30, 2020, addresses a peculiar situation related to Dreams, a game that supports PlayStation Move controllers along with the DualShock 4. The PS Camera, working in conjunction with the Move controllers, enhances the sense of depth and facilitates the manipulation of 3D objects within the game.

The crux of the matter lies in the compatibility of the existing PS Camera with the PS5. Sony has communicated that the current camera is not compatible with the PS5, necessitating PSVR owners to apply for a free adapter to continue using the PSVR headset on the new console. This process involves inputting a serial number from the PSVR unit.

However, the article raises an intriguing question: What if you use Move controllers for Dreams but don't own PSVR? In this specific scenario, Media Molecule, the developer of Dreams, has provided a solution. According to a tweet mentioned in the article, individuals in this situation can contact their local PlayStation Support team to request a PS5 camera adaptor, even if they don't own PSVR.

This revelation implies that individuals who create content in Dreams using Move controllers can still continue their creative endeavors on the PS5 through backward compatibility. While the number of people affected may be relatively small, it's reassuring that a solution is available.
