Does Ryzen 2500U have AES acceleration? AMD website don't list the details (2024)

Product specs at https://www.amd.com/en/products/apu/amd-ryzen-5-2500u#product-specs do not list AES at "Key features", while for example for https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-7-pro-1700x it does mention AES.

I'd like an (affordable) AMD cpu for a router/firewall/low end VPN server and for the VPN it is absolutely necessary to have something which compares to the other cpu manufacturer's AES-NI. The difference can be over 300% in performance.

Internet searches have been rather inconclusive and none of the sources have been AMD itself, so cannot really be trusted.

FAQs

Does my CPU have AES? ›

Another way to check for AES-NI support is by utilizing grep in /proc/cpuinfo file. This file is a rich source of CPU-related information. In the above command, grep scans the /proc/cpuinfo file for instances of the aes keyword and outputs them. If AES-NI is not supported, there will be no output.

Does AMD support AES? ›

The AMD AES core provides encryption and decryption functions that are compliant to the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS), Publication 197. The core comes with built-in key expansion for both encryption and decryption functions.

Does AMD Ryzen 5 support AES-NI? ›

All Zen processors support AES-NI. It's only going to be mentioned specifically as a key feature if they're trying to punch up security. The 2500U has about 4.6GB/sec throughput with AES.

What is the AES feature of the CPU? ›

AES is a block cipher that encrypts a 128-bit block (plaintext) to a 128-bit block (ciphertext), or decrypts a 128-bit block (ciphertext) to a 128-bit block (plaintext). AES uses a key (cipher key) whose length can be 128, 192, or 256 bits.

Is AES implemented in hardware? ›

The Advanced Encryption Standard can be implemented in either software or hardware. Hardware acceleration is the use of hardware to perform a task more efficiently than is possible in software.

Is the AMD Ryzen 5 2500U good? ›

Given that it has a hungry CPU and GPU in the same package, it's good that the Ryzen 5 2500U nearly sweeps our synthetic memory bandwidth tests. Despite the move to a single Zen core complex, however, the Ryzen 5 2500U doesn't improve on its desktop counterparts' tendency to post high memory access latency numbers.

How old is the Ryzen 5 2500U? ›

The AMD Ryzen 5 2500U is a mobile processor with 4 cores, launched in October 2017. It is part of the Ryzen 5 lineup, using the Zen (Raven Ridge) architecture with Socket FP5.

Is Ryzen 5 2500U good for programming? ›

Ryzen's 5 series processors are a great start for someone getting into programming, streaming, editing or other applications that can make use of multiple cores.

What are the 3 AES versions? ›

AES is the best known and most widely used block cipher. Its three versions (AES-128, AES-192, and AES-256) differ in their key sizes (128 bits, 192 bits and 256 bits) and in their number of rounds (10, 12, and 14, respectively).

What is the best AES to use? ›

AES-256 encryption is extremely secure. It is the most secure encryption algorithm available today and is used extensively in government and military applications, as well as by businesses operating in highly regulated industries.

Which WIFI uses AES? ›

WPA2 uses AES, which stands for advanced encryption standard. This is implemented as part of counter mode cipher block chaining message authentication code protocol (or CCMP).

How do I know if my CPU has E cores? ›

Use the Intel® Processor Identification Utility for the Intel® Core™ 12th generation and newer. The utility shows the number of the P-Cores and E-Cores in the system. Note that there are two versions of Intel® Processor Identification Utility: For 12th generation and newer processors.

What is AES in CPU? ›

The Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), also known by its original name Rijndael (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈrɛindaːl]), is a specification for the encryption of electronic data established by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in 2001.
