Discord is backing away from its ban on accessing NSFW servers from iOS, if only partly. The Vergenotes the chat service has updated its policy to note that it will only ban servers devoted to "explicit p*rnographic content." You can access other NSFW servers by opting in from a computer first.
The company didn't explain the decision. We've asked the firm for comment.
The initial approach, which blocked all NSFW-labeled servers on iOS, was likely prompted by Apple's App Store policies. The tech giant forbids apps where nudity is a major focus, but allows "incidental" content. If Discord didn't ban p*rn-oriented servers, it risked a ban.
This new method won't satisfy all users, but it will let many chatters continue to participate on iPhones and iPads. It could be particularly helpful for moderators who'd lose the ability to police discussions away from their computers.
Update (4:50 PM ET): In a statement, Discord said "We will continue to work with server owners and our partners, and will notify all server owners letting them know which of their servers are impacted."

Last week, we introduced additional controls to ensure minors will not be exposed to content that is inappropriate for them per App Store guidelines. We realize the community had many questions, and we wanted to clarify our position and which servers will or will not be affected. These updates are outlined in detail on our support articles for users and server owners. We will continue to work with server owners and our partners, and will notify all server owners letting them know which of their servers are impacted. "

Now, only servers focused on “explicit p*rnographic content” will be fully blocked from being accessed through the apps. Other NSFW servers will still be blocked by default, but users will be able to opt in to viewing them. The changes walk back a stricter ban on NSFW content that Discord put in place last week.
Adult content that isn't placed in the Discord NSFW channel will be removed by moderators and the user who posted the content may be banned from the server. Containing the adult contents in a dedicated place is allowed by Discord standards. Yet, there are still some contents that aren't accepted by Discord.
The first step is to Open Discord, and Click on the User Setting icon at the bottom left of your screen. Click Privacy & Safety. Scroll down, and Click on the Toggle button beside Allow access to age-restricted servers on iOS.
But the bigger limitation is that it prevents NSFW servers from being accessed on iOS devices — a significant restriction that's almost certainly meant to cater to Apple's strict and often prudish rules around nudity in services distributed through the App Store.
Within the channel's settings, find and click on the “Overview” tab. Once you're on the Overview tab, you'll see the option for Slow Mode, where you can control the message limit. Just below Slow Mode, you'll find the “Age-Restricted Channel” button—enable it.

Discord didn't specify why iOS users are being treated differently from those on other platforms, but Apple's iOS Developer Guidelines say that apps with user-generated content "that end up being used primarily for p*rnographic content... do not belong on the App Store." The guidelines allow for "incidental" NSFW ...
Unless a higher age is mandated by local law, 13 years of age or older. Under-17s can still register and use the platform, but Discord "updated its age rating to 17+ at Apple's request," according to their website, in order to "help ensure minors are not exposed to content inappropriate for them."
Go to Settings and tap Screen Time. Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions and enter your Screen Time passcode. Tap Content Restrictions, then tap Web Content. Choose Unrestricted Access, Limit Adult Websites, or Allowed Websites.
