New York state residents can now buy, sell, and hold cryptocurrencies on Public.
In 2021, we launched crypto on Public, empowering members to manage a diverse portfolio of stocks, funds, and crypto — all in one place.
Today, we’re excited to share that Apex Crypto, our cryptocurrency execution and custody service partner, has secured its New York virtual currency license, or ‘BitLicense,’ which means that New York-based Public members can now trade crypto on Public.
Due to New York state regulation, New York residents are only able to trade cryptos that are greenlisted by the state’s Department of Financial Services. Starting today, New York-based members can trade seven of the 30 cryptocurrencies that Public offers:
- Bitcoin ($BTC)
- Ether ($ETH)
- Bitcoin Cash ($BCH)
- Basic Attention Token ($BAT)
- Chainlink ($LINK)
- Litecoin ($LTC)
- Aave ($AAVE)
We’re looking forward to working closely with Apex Crypto to add new cryptos for New York-based members, and will provide updates as soon as new cryptos become available.
Crypto assets are evaluated differently than stock market securities, and their prices tend to be incredibly volatile. Built-in contextual information like educational carousels and Volatility Reminders help members learn more about different cryptocurrencies and invest with context.
Every week, members can tune into Crypto Club on Public Live, our in-app audio show where experts and leaders in digital currency break down blockchain basics and the biggest stories in crypto. Through programming like Crypto Club and our daily morning show The Open, members can learn about market news in real-time while building long-term financial literacy.
Crypto on Public is powered by Apex Crypto, which provides cryptocurrency execution and custody services.
Public provides a place for members to buy, sell, and hold crypto. Currently, we do not provide a crypto wallet, but we are working towards offering this in the future.
