Coinbase Card Review 2024 (2024)

Coinbase Card* vs. Venmo Credit Card*

The Venmo Credit Card* offers unlimited cash back of up to 3% on purchases that can be automatically converted to crypto at the end of each month. You’ll earn 3% cash back in the top spend category, 2% on the next category and 1% on all other purchases. All other purchases earn 1%. You don’t have to track categories or manually activate bonuses since Venmo automatically applies the highest rewards to the top two categories out of the eight you spend the most each month.

To start earning crypto with your Venmo Credit Card*, simply turn on the “purchase crypto” option inside the Venmo app. Venmo currently supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash and PayPal’s stablecoin known as PayPal USD. Your cash-back rewards will buy crypto at the end of each reward cycle until the option is turned off. Venmo waives the standard crypto purchase fees on these automatic purchases.

You’ll also save money using the Venmo Credit Card* to send money through the app. When you pay friends, small businesses and others, the standard 3% fee is waived through December 31, 2023. Cardholders can start earning rewards immediately after approval using their virtual card number found in the Venmo app. The Venmo Credit Card* has no annual fee, offers contactless payments and zero liability for unauthorized transactions. If you’re eligible for Visa Signature perks, you get roadside dispatch, Visa Luxury Hotel Collection benefits, Sonoma County wine benefits and more.

Coinbase Card* vs. The Gemini Credit Card®*

Crypto enthusiasts can earn rewards in over 40 cryptocurrencies with The Gemini Credit Card®*, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Filecoin, Dogecoin and XRP. Rewards are posted instantly to your account, so you can benefit immediately after making purchases rather than waiting until your statement closes. Plus, there are no trading fees, which adds even more value for cardholders. As your strategies evolve, you can change which type of crypto rewards you earn anytime.

The Gemini Credit Card®* offers 3% back on dining, 2% back on groceries and 1% back on all other purchases. Customers can customize their Gemini experience by selecting black, silver or rose gold colored cards. Plus, exclusive merchant reward offers earn 5% or more on select purchases. The card also saves money since it does not charge annual fees, foreign transaction fees or exchange fees on crypto rewards. Additionally, The Gemini Credit Card®* includes Mastercard benefits, like discounts on Peaco*ck, Instacart, Lyft and ShopRunner and perks when booking through Mastercard Travel & Lifestyle Services.

Coinbase Card* vs. Nexo Card*

The Nexo Card is the world’s first “dual-mode crypto card,” allowing users to switch between credit or debit card purchases. As a credit card, cardholders make purchases up to their credit limit. Their crypto balances act as collateral for repayment, but they avoid paying taxes on gains because they don’t sell crypto. When used as a debit card, you’ll spend stablecoins representing Euros, British Pounds or U.S. dollars based on your available balance.

All cardholders receive cash back in the form of NEXO Tokens or Bitcoin. However, the amount of rewards depends on your loyalty tier and type of currency. In credit mode, you’ll receive up to 2% NEXO Tokens or up to 0.5% Bitcoin. While debit mode earns daily interest of up to 9% in NEXO Tokens or up to 7% in fiat currency.

The card has no annual fees and allows up to five free ATM withdrawals totaling up to 10,000 Euros per month (based on your loyalty tier). It also waives foreign transaction fees up to 10,000 Euros per month, depending on your account tier. The downside is that you must be a Platinum member with a portfolio balance of at least $500 to order a physical Nexo Card.

Coinbase Card* vs. Brex 30 Card

The Brex 30 Card is geared toward well-funded startups. Card owners can take advantage of generous points earnings across a variety of categories—the highest earning categories designed directly for a startup. When you make monthly payments on the card using the company’s Brex Cash deposit account, you’ll earn 7 points per dollar on rideshare, 4 points per dollar on travel booked through Brex Travel, 3 points per dollar on restaurants, 2 points per dollar on recurring software and 1 point per dollar on everything else.

The Brex 30 Card is not technically a crypto rewards card, but rewards can be redeemed for Bitcoin or Ethereum at a rate of 1 Brex point for $0.6 of crypto. Using Brex rewards to purchase crypto will incur a network fee. Finally, the card offers exclusive savings and discounts for various business-related services like subscriptions to Slack, cash back at Apple, a credit for AWS and more.

Compared to the Coinbase Card*, the Brex 30 Card blows the competition out of the water when it comes to earnings, perks and just about everything else. Only well-funded startups are eligible for the Brex 30 Card, however.
