Can you be a blogger with limited skills? I have heard many people use their lack of technical skills for example as the reason that they “can’t” be a blogger or an affiliate marketer. They can’t see how to make money from home with no skills or no experience.
I say you have to start somewhere. I once didn’t know how to swim or ride a bike, but now it’s second nature. When I started blogging and affiliate marketing in 2009, I didn’t know squat, now I teach others how to do it. Seriously, I can remember when I didn’t know how to minimize or close a screen with the little minus or x sign up there in the upper right corner.
I still remember my boss back in the day when I was a slave to a real job screaming at me for having so many windows open because I didn’t know how to close them. You would have thought that I had committed a major crime the way he was ranting. I had no clue. Granted I had over 50 tabs open and was wondering why my computer was running so slow. I count my lucky stars I never have to have a raving boss again! Whew! (Oh if he could see me now!)
It’s Not That You Can’t, It’s That You Won’t!
Lack of technical skill or lack of any skill as a reason (excuse) not to do something is really a lie. When you say you can’t do something, that is just not the truth. You can do anything you set your mind to, the problem is you just won’t. Next time you catch yourself saying “I can’t” to anything, reword it to “I won’t do such and such” and go look in the mirror and sit with the truth. The truth that you won’t. How does that feel to you?
My bet is it doesn’t feel good. It feels dis-empowering. What would happen in your blogging life or your online business or even your life in general if you removed “I can’t” out of your vocabulary? How would your business, your life change?
The Power of I Am!
Are you aware of how you use the words I am? Take a few days and start paying attention to how you use these words for empowerment or if you in fact use them for dis- empowerment.
Allow me to give you a few examples:
Examples of dis-empowering use of I am:
- I am not technically savvy
- I am fat
- I am not creative
- I am not smart enough
- I am unlucky
- I am too old
- I am limited for time
- I am not a writer
- I am not comfortable doing _________
Your self talk is everything and will impact your business and your bottom line and you can take that to the bank…or not. Do you talk to others like this? I hope not, so why talk to yourself like this? You weren’t created to dull your light, you were created to shine!
I am the first to admit that technical issues will stall me for a while. I have learned that instead of telling myself I am technically challenged, to say instead, I am a technical guru! I have often surprised myself at how my mind opens to learn with just a slight shift in the way I think and talk to myself.
Empowering Uses of I Am!
- I am a technical genius
- I am thin
- I am creative
- I am smart
- I am blessed
- I am young enough to start anything I want to
- I am able to find the time for what is important
- I am a great writer
- I am able to step out of that comfort zone
- I am able to make money from home with no skills
I could talk for hours on this topic. The words you use and the thoughts you think either work for you or against you. Choose them both wisely. The amount of technical skills or any skill set for that matter, have really has no impact on if you can blog or be an affiliate marketer. There are people to teach you, blogging and affiliate marketing classes you can take, and groups that will help you along your way. Lack of technical skills is just one of many excuses that people use to place limits on themselves.
The only thing that limits you is you! Can you stop standing in your own way?
