In a remote world, Blooket has grown in popularity, leaving some to wonder if it can replace the beloved Kahoot.
Blooket: most people probably haven’t heard of it, but it’s growing fast. The website, similar to Kahoot, was designed to enhance students’ learning experience with game-based trivia. In total, the site has six game modes and they’re still looking to add more.
Their classic game mode, which is styled like Kahoot, can only be played live. Unlike the website which we all know and love, there are five more game modes to choose from. The other five can be played at any time, by yourself or against others, all of which can earn you tokens. These tokens can be used to buy blooks.
Blooks are the avatars players can buy and use during games. They come in all different forms, from a zebra to a jester. Blooks help immerse the player and make them want to do well during the games (so they can buy more). It’s not just fun, it’s also effective.
“[Blooket’s] more fun and has different kinds of ways to play and makes you learn without the stress of everyone seeing who’s in what order necessarily,” senior Courtney Bridges said.
While the fun exterior of the game engages the player, Blooket also gives in depth statistics for each user. Not only that, Blooket allows teachers to assign sets as homework.
“I feel as though Blooket is improving faster,” French teacher “Madame” Kaytlyn Byers said. “They are also much easier to create, because I can take my Quizlet sets and turn them into Blookets. Kahoots have to be made from scratch and I have to type in the answer choices myself.”
Madame Byers also added that Blooket is a “breath of fresh air” amongst the staleness of Kahoot.
“I like letting my classes choose which game to play,” she said, “and Blooket comes out with new games about every three months.”
Although Kahoot is a classic with students, technology has come a long way and it’s time our learning games reflected this. Blooket is a great alternative.
