Safetywing Travel Insurance Review

Best Travel Insurance Comparison (2)

SafetyWing is a travel medical insurance set to help cover the needs of digital nomads and travelers while they are outside their country. The best thing about it? The insurance is infinite, so you can actually have it continuously.

How is that possible?

SafetyWing’s biggest selling point is its subscription model. You pay $42* every 4 weeks of insurance to get your travel medical insurance covered while you are outside your home country. This insurance is perfect for travelers and digital nomads who travel for a really long time, and gets paid on the road, meaning you are working online or freelance and your regular health care cannot cover you. You’ll need to pay extra if you need your Safetywing insurance to cover the United States.

Your subscription continuously renews, unless you cancel it, just like any other subscription. This will continue for 364 days. When signing up, you also have the option to have insurance with an end date, so you can pay just for that specific period, in case you don’t need a full year of coverage.

After 364 days (for the continuous subscription), you’ll have to sign up for a new plan. You can get covered infinitely (as long as you continuously pay), or you can stop it, you have the choice.

When you go home, you are covered in your home country for 30 days, for every 90 days of subscription to the SafetyWing insurance, or 15 days if you are from the US.

For the above home country coverage to work, you need to have been continuously subscribed to one insurance plan (no renewals in between) for 90 days before heading to your home country.

Safetywing, which has just gotten its next set of investment, was founded by digital nomads themselves, who understands the needs of other digital nomads when it comes to health care and insurance.

SafetyWing, which now competes with World Nomads, the only other travel medical insurance for digital nomads, has the advantage of having competitive fees. You’re covered for almost everything that you will truly need (insurance-wise) while you’re staying in another country.

Best Travel Insurance Comparison (3)

Here are the main coverage features of SafetyWing:

  1. Travel delays out of your control(does not include missed flights).
  2. Only lost checked luggage is covered, and noexpensive electronics like laptops, GoPro cameras, iPads, tablets, cameras, lenses, etc.
  3. Worldwide coverageexcept for North Korea, Cuba, and Iran, and coverage in the US costs an extra $31/4 weeks
  4. 30 days for every 90 days of medical coverage in your home country– unless you’re a US citizen –if the US is your home country you get 15 days of coverage for every 90 days you’re there (a rarity for travel insurance)
  5. Health coverage for unexpected injuries and illnesses; hospital stay, prescriptions, doctors, and emergency medical evacuation (extraction),onlyacute onset of pre-existing conditions are included in some cases
  6. Not covered: Pre-existing conditions, cancer treatment, routine checkups, preventative care and there’slimitedcoverage for sports and adventure activities
  7. Medical and hospital fees, $250 deductible, excluding routine checkups and treatments that have been there before the insurance started
  8. Travel insurance like delayed and canceled flights, but not missed flights
  9. Children up to 10 years old are covered for free under Safetywing, one kid per one insured adult.

The overall maximum limit is $250,000 and SafetyWing co-insures to pay 100% of eligible expenses after deductibles.

In every insurance, contacting SafetyWing, or any other company for that matter is very important. Coverage dates are very important, and you need to be sure about them once you start to send your application.

Safetywing – Pros and Cons

Safetywing is perfect if you are under 40 years old. Their pricing is competitive for this range of age. Safetywing’s prices are the best especially if you travel with a kid up to 10 years old, who can get covered for free! There are a lot of risky activities that are included in Safetywing’s plans as well, without extra charge. And you can book for 28 days at a time, for a cheaper price.

One of the cons we see with Safetywing is that if you have a problem, and need medical assistance immediately, you’ll have to put your money first and there is no 24/7 support like with Heymondo.

Heymondo Review – Travel Insurance for Digital Nomads

Why You Should Get Heymondo Travel Insurance – Best Travel Insurance Compared

Best Travel Insurance Comparison (4)

Heymondo right now is the best value for the money I would say especially if you are older than 40 years old and you aren’t traveling with kids.

The best thing about Heymondo Travel Insurance for us isthe No out-of-pocket medical expensesapart from great coverage with devices and baggage, Heymondo App assistance 24/7 which is really amazing, and of course, their competitive prices.

These prices mentioned below are for the basic medical expenses but you can upgrade for a $10-20 USD extra per month if you would love your coverage to have more features.

Heymondo Travel Insurance prices valid for 90 daysare so competitive. This is Heymondo’s Long Stay Plan. If you are coming from Europe/UK, for example in Spain, you will pay around$45 USDper person valid for 30 days. It means for$135 USDyou will get your Travel Insurance with Heymondo valid for 90 days. For even cheaper, you canbook here with Heymondo discount code.

Here’s another example. Let’s say you are coming from Canada or the Philippines, like Rachel. Heymondo Travel Insurance prices are similar and you will have to pay$140 USDfor 90 days for a travel insurance with Heymondo.

If you are from the United States you will pay$260 USDfor 90 days which is$85 USDper person for 30 days. You can get even cheaper if youbook here with Heymondo discount code!

PROS AND CONS HEYMONDO

With Heymondo, our favorite thing is that if you are over 40 years old, you get a better price than Safetywing, especially if you have a problem or accident during your trip. It’s also an incredible plus that you have access to their Heymondo Assistance Chat 24/7, plus without a need to put money in advance when you need medical assistance.

Another plus is that with Heymondo, you can include optional devices and gadgets insurance (add it to any of your plans) that can cover gadgets and devices that can be broken or stolen during your trip. This is a big plus because a lot of devices and gadgets right now are pricey and valuable to your trip. Insuring gadgets and devices are something we truly miss with Safetywing’s travel insurance.

Another pro that we love about Heymondo is their Trip Cancellation feature. If you subscribed to Heymondo’s travel insurance in advance and you had to cancel due to unforeseen circ*mstances, they’ll offer you a refund, no questions asked.

Genki Insurance

Offerings: Genki provides worldwide health insurance plans, specifically tailored for expatriates.

Coverage: Their coverage includes comprehensive medical coverage, including hospital expenses, emergency medical evacuation, and repatriation. Genki also offers optional add-ons for non-emergency medical treatments.

Pricing: While Genki offers extensive coverage, its pricing might be less competitive compared to other providers, especially for short-term travel.

Customer Service: Genki has a 24/7 customer service line and is generally praised for its prompt and helpful responses. Some customers, however, have reported issues with claim reimbursem*nts.

Final Thoughts – Travel Insurance Compared

We’d say all travel insurances mentioned above have their own pros and cons. There is no perfect travel insurance that fits all types of travelers, so you’ll need to get one that covers the needs that are important for you.

For example, if you’re traveling with kids 10 years old and below, it’s really good to go for Safetywing as kids are covered for free (one kid, per one paying adult).

If you’re a constant traveler but also go home every few weeks or even months and are looking for a more annual plan rather than a monthly subscription, you might want to check Heymondo plans.

If you are someone who comes from the United States, and need more adventure and explorer covers because of your type of trips, you might want to check out World Nomads.

Hope we were able to help you come to a better decision on which travel insurance to get and if not – ask us questions! Safe travels everyone and see you on our next travel guide.
