Ash's Rayquaza was the sixth Pokémon that Ash caught in Pokémon Journeys: The Series, and his fifty-eighth overall.

Personality

Rayquaza is a very skilled fighter. It also has very developed dodging skills, avoiding Kyurem's Dragon Pulse even from point-blank range and facing a member of the Tao trio almost without taking a hit from it. It has been shown to be very brave, shown as it fiercely fought Kyurem that not only had a double type advantage with the Ice-typing, but also had a type advantage through the Dragon-typing. Despite being exposed to it's 2x weakness against ice once both Rayquaza and Kyurem fell in the sea and the water was instantly frozen, Rayquaza showed determination and great endurance breaking through the thick ice layer and shooting a Hyper Beam at Kyurem.

Rayquaza is very obedient. In AWG005, Rayquaza obeyed without hesitation every single one of Ash's commands. Rayquaza also has an amazing display and good sense of teamwork. It is also wise enough to recognize Ash's ability as a trainer. Although it did not trust Ash during their first meeting, Rayquaza started to bond with him as he saw his efforts in order to protect it.

History

Rayquaza first appeared in AWG001 when it and a Kyurem were exchanging attacks. Later a group of Pokémon hunters were attacking the two of them causing them to flee the scene, but not before using Rayquaza's injuries to their advantage and poisoning it with a Arbok's Toxic.

Rayquaza landed at a large clearing in White Forest, where it was later discovered by Ash, who had been sent to the White Forest by Professor Cerise to research what type of Pokémon lived there. Ash took care of Rayquaza by curing its poisoned state and feeding it berries and Pokémon Food, despite Rayquaza not trusting him. When Lucario notified Ash that the hunters began closing in on the forest, Ash used Dragonite and Dracovish as a distraction to move where the hunters thought Rayquaza was. When Ash finished healing Rayquaza's injuries as best as he could, he joined Dragonite and Dracovish in defeating the hunters, wishing Rayquaza safe travels as Sky High Pokémon watched Ash as he left the clearing.

Ash battled the hunters and was able to freeze them with Ice Beam and Ice Fang, allowing them to be arrested by Officer Jenny. When Ash returned to the White Forest, he couldn't see Rayquaza making him smile that it was flying again, before looking down to see a large shadow hover over him before looking up to see Rayquaza. Rayquaza requested to join Ash, choosing him to be its trainer, much to Ash's and his Pokémon's shock. Ash was at first hesitant at this request, but eventually gave in when Rayquaza assured him that the balance in the world would be intact. Ash captured Rayquaza in a Master Ball, celebrating with his Pokémon at his first Legendary capture.
