What is burrata?
Burrata is an Italian dish that’s made from cow or buffalos milk that’s traditional to the southern region of Apulia. It’s made from mozzarella and cream and presented in a large sphere shape with the outer casing being a semi-hard, solid cheese with a soft centre made of stracciatella di bufala and cream.
Is burrata vegan?
Perhaps unsurprisingly, traditional burrata is not suitable for vegans as it’s entirely made from cow or buffalo dairy. But are there any vegan alternatives?

The answer to that is a reassuring yes – we love this cashew-based vegan burrata recipe from Putamayo Kitchen. It has the creamy texture of good soft cheese with a subtle nutty flavour and is lightly fermented over a few days meaning that it’s full of gut-healthy bacteria.
