The company says the goal is to prioritize privacy. Airbnb has made the decision to ban the use of indoor security cameras to “prioritize the privacy of our community,” according to a statement from the company on Monday.

Airbnb is banning the use of indoor security cameras in listings globally as part of efforts to simplify our policy on security cameras and other devices and to continue to prioritize the privacy of our community.

Can Airbnb hosts watch you on cameras? Technically, yes, but only through outdoor cameras in open areas. Hosts are not allowed to set up any kind of indoor camera.

Starting April 1, 2024, for cross-currency bookings, the guest service fee will include an additional amount of up to 2% of the booking total before taxes. This will be applied when the currency the guest uses to pay differs from the currency that the Host set for their listing.

The platform had allowed cameras in common areas like hallways and living rooms as long as they were disclosed. Airbnb is banning indoor security cameras from rental properties listed on its site, citing privacy concerns.

As a host, if you do not disclose these devices, even if they are not active, you may be hit with penalties and the guest may cancel with a full refund. Surveillance devices are strictly prohibited from private spaces such as bathrooms and bedrooms, regardless of disclosure.
